What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Director, Application Security, you will provide leadership and execution in the area of penetration testing services for the global RBC business and application development teams across all enterprise information technology. The successful candidate will manage the activities of a team within the unit, while enabling the team to meet their objectives and implement changes to processes to increase efficiency.

What will you do? 

  • Lead a team of accomplished application security consultants based in Toronto and Vancouver in the delivery of robust and scalable penetration testing services to the organization
  • Evolve and mature the service delivery processes and capabilities of the team, and develop a sustainable service model to meet the demands of our business partners
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with key contacts across various lines of business within the enterprise, focusing on building trust, understanding their unique security needs, and providing expert guidance to drive client value and satisfaction
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with external vendors who perform penetration testing, serving as a key point of contact to ensure effective collaboration and issue resolution
  • Lead RBC’s Responsible Disclosure program, fostering collaboration with external researchers and internal stakeholders to identify, report, and remediate security vulnerabilities in a timely and secure manner.
  • Act as the SME for penetration testing processes, maintaining documentation and ensuring compliance with established processes
  • Support RBC compliance representatives by providing application security testing evidence for audits/regulatory bodies
  • Resolve issues and conflicts in day-to-day penetration testing operations 

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • 5 or more years demonstrated experience in Information Security, Technology Risk or Operational Risk environments
  • 3 or more years of people management experience and proven leadership and coaching abilities
  • General knowledge of penetration testing methodologies, tools, and techniques, including web application penetration testing, mobile penetration testing and network penetration testing
  • General knowledge of project management and development methodologies, including Agile, SDLC and secure development
  • Working knowledge of modern application penetration testing tooling and platforms, such as BurpSuite, Qualys or OWASP ZAP
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, motivational skills in achieving business objectives

Nice To Have:

  • Information Security professional designations such as CISSP, GSEC, CISM, CISA
  • Knowledge of OWASP, NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, or other security-related frameworks
