The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles’ third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. Senior Manager, Operational Planning

Reporting to the Head of Operational Planning, the Senior Manager, Operational Planning will drive the integration of key workstreams—spanning stakeholder planning, service delivery, and event operations—across venues, non-competition venues, ceremonies, and remote cities. This role demands cross-functional collaboration, strategic presentation development, and data synthesis, all while managing timelines and deliverables. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver, ready to dive into any challenge and contribute as a versatile team player.

Based in our Los Angeles office, this leader thrives in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and brings a collaborative spirit to every initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional integration to advance operational planning across diverse teams.
  • Design and execute strategic roadmaps that align operations across venues, ceremonies, remote cities, and stakeholder experiences.
  • Drive progress on planning deliverables in sync with the integrated planning timeline.
  • Manage and mentor a small team to deliver high-impact results.
  • Generate insights through research and analysis to inform strategic decisions.
  • Navigate dynamic environments with agility across multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Develop and implement detailed operational plans that meet organizational goals and timelines.
  • Facilitate internal and external meetings to ensure alignment and momentum across working groups.
  • Leverage planning tools like SmartSheet and other platforms to track and manage progress.
  • Ensure venue-function alignment by supporting operational consistency across all sites.
  • Establish scalable processes for policies and procedures ahead of Testing, Readiness, and Games-time operations.
  • Champion holistic planning for all event phases.

Background & Requirements:

  • 7+ years in operational planning or project management, ideally in large-scale events.
  • Proven success in integration roles within complex organizations.
  • Strategic execution experience aligned with broader organizational goals.
  • Analytical mindset with proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Generalist perspective with the ability to connect dots across disciplines.
  • Expert PowerPoint skills—comfortable building decks from scratch to communicate strategy and plans.
  • Operational and budget-conscious thinking with clear, actionable output.
  • Proficiency in project tools like SmartSheet (preferred).
  • Adaptability in fast-moving, high-pressure environments.
  • Team leadership experience with a collaborative approach.
  • Commitment to co-creation and inclusive decision-making

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work on-site in an office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA 
  • The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment 

 

The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 - $140,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
