JOB SUMMARY
In the context of brand repositioning and accelerated business growth in Japan, the Head of Merchandising oversees the execution of the merchandising strategy and Buying Office operations. Aligned with financial objectives (OTB), this role ensures a compelling product assortment to:
- Achieve sales, margin, sell-through, and inventory goals.
- Expand the brand’s presence in Japan through a dynamic and relevant product offering.
- Execute the brand’s rejuvenation and elevation strategy to attract younger, fashion-forward customers.
- Tailor assortments to diverse store profiles and customer preferences, ensuring the right product mix, pricing, and placement.
- Collaborate with Planning and regional teams to leverage data-driven insights, market trends, and competitive analysis.
- Influence global product development by identifying market-specific opportunities.
This role requires strategic leadership to align category strategies with financial goals, foster cross-functional collaboration, and build a high-performing team to strengthen the brand’s identity in Japan.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Merchandising
- Drive the brand’s rejuvenation and elevation strategy to attract target demographics and expand market share.
- Develop category strategies that exceed retail and e-commerce needs, balancing innovation and commercial viability, balancing commerciality & elevation .
- Identify growth opportunities to boost sales, margin, and brand equity.
- Align assortments with seasonal and long-term business goals, ensuring adherence to key timelines.
- Monitor competitor trends and market dynamics to inform product decisions.
- Partner with global and regional teams to align on seasonal priorities and product development.
- Streamline inventory management across stores and e-commerce.
Leadership and People Management
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture, prioritizing mentorship and talent development.
- Lead, motivate, and develop direct reports, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Partner with HR and Local President on recruitment, performance management, and succession planning.
- Enhance team capabilities in product knowledge, analytics, and systems proficiency.
Financial
- Optimize buying strategies to maximize category performance and profitability.
- Analyze financial impacts of merchandising decisions, adjusting pricing and assortments as needed.
- Ensure adherence to budget, OTB, inventory projections and line plans.
Cross-functional Partnership
- Collaborate with BU owners to define
- meaningful Stores clusters & provide the right product, at the right place, at the right price
- Mark down timing & execution
- Collaborate with Marketing, Visual, Logistics, and regional teams to unify brand storytelling and operational execution.
- Align with regional leaders to ensure consistency in assortments and processes.
- Represent the merchandising division in cross-functional initiatives.
