Job Description:

Job Summary
This position uses import/export regulations to classify products and determines eligibility for various regulatory programs involved in international imports and exports. This position serves as a liaison between UPS and government entities, resolving issues related to customs declarations, shipping restrictions, and tax payments. This position also troubleshoots and communicates documentation discrepancy issues with customers and foreign origins. He/She audits commercial documents, applies harmonized tariff schedule codes for accurate duty assessments and ensures all federal requirements are met. This position handles general customs brokerage activities and general office and data entry tasks as well as assisting the Customs and Border Protection officers during physical package examinations.

Responsibilities:

  • Substantiates classification decisions using General Rules of Interpretation (GROI), Explanatory Notes, BOSS, HTSUS, ISPS, and other resources.

  • Engages in Country of Origin verification projects, contact suppliers to obtain correct Country of Origin for customers' products.

  • Manages and organizes product databases and classification information in Excel and Access.

  • Enters product classifications and substantiation into proprietary operating system.

  • Communicates proactively with customers including educating customers on regulatory procedures

  • Supports data entry

  • Collects supplementary information or documentation from customers (shipper/receiver), customs, etc.

  • Identifies customer profile discrepancies.

  • Answers standard questions and requests from customers, customs and other offices.

  • Works as team member with clients, UPS employees, carriers, inbound agents, etc.

  • Assist with processing shipments being physically inspected by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.



Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of US Customs and Border Protection Regulations
Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) - Preferred
International Trade, Logistics or Freight Forwarding experience - Preferred
Previous experience with classification and/or FTA determination - Preferred
