This position will report to the Associate Director, Supply Chain, Site Sourcing Lead and will maintain strong alignment to the pharmaceutical operations network strategy and initiatives. This role will work directly with manager level cross-functional stakeholders including manufacturing, material sciences, supply chain, category leads at the site and within the network to lead and execute operational procurement related activities. This role will be responsible for developing and improving existing processes, bringing new and innovative approaches, with a focus on day-to-day and long-term goals and objectives.

This business critical function will support on site manufacturing operation continuity and requires a strong ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities on a daily basis with minimal guidance.  The role requires strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.  There will be a focus on solving complex issues with a broad perspective - presenting data, conclusions, and best practices in multiple forums at site and network levels.


Key Responsibilities:

  • This position must comply with all Security guidelines, Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, and the current Good Manufacturing Practices required by the job function. 
  • Design, strategy, and execution of all direct material procurement related activities for the manufacture of product.
  • Establishes and maintains communication and linkages with Global Procurement category leaders at network sites as well as Headquarters (HQ); provides appropriate feedback on supplier performance aspects.
  • Works closely with internal stakeholders within the Supply Chain, MS&T, Manufacturing Ops and Engineering departments along with other Finance/Admin functions to ensure a seamless customer service. 
  • Implements direct material strategic category initiatives and projects at the Phoenix site for Commercial Pharmaceutical manufacturing in alignment with Global Procurement category leaders and the Site Supply Chain Lead.
  • Leads Regional sub-category strategy development and execution in conjunction with relevant category lead.
  • Achieves and exceeds metrics including value beyond savings, savings avoidance, reduction in cost and invoicing compliance.
  • Triages and resolves escalations and continuity of supply risks for all Direct Materials procured to the Phoenix facility.
  • Acts as primary initial point of contact (POC) for escalations in site Supply Chain Sourcing. Communicates escalations and manages site expectations during times of material supply disruption risks.
  • Supports and situationally leads supplier engagement and commercial management of strategic partnerships for site-level managed suppliers.
  • Supports and situationally leads Sourcing activities related to existing and new supplier qualifications, readiness, assessment and execution of projects including tech transfers.
  • Leads supplier risk assessment across direct materials and works with global teams to ensure segmentation of key relationships.
  • Supports and implements effective direct material and indirect sourcing negotiations, in compliance with global policies and procedures. Reviews and scores suppliers in request for proposal (RFP) process as part of supplier selection process.
  • Develops effective relationships with key suppliers in a way that builds mutual respect, trust, and drives performance in a manner consistent with BMS values and behaviors.
  • Leverages technology to implement direct material category specific goals and objectives with a robust understanding of the Procurement compliance systems.
  • Works with department heads to identify new opportunities and involves Global Procurement, as necessary, for overall strategy & alignment to improve supplier service performance. 
  • Identifies new opportunities and areas of continuous improvement in procurement execution.
  • Leads the timely completion of assigned activities related to direct material supplier notifications, change control requirements and supplier change notices.
  • Supports Impact Assessments related to new product launches and new suppliers.
  • Interacts with different functional areas (Compliance, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Manufacturing Technology) to contemporaneously achieve change control requirements.
  • Leads Local Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program for Direct Materials, participates in supplier visits for direct materials used at the Phoenix site.
  • Collaborates with Supplier Quality to support Supplier Alerts for direct materials.
  • Leads purchase price variance (PPV), work order variance (WOV), Projection 1 (P1), Budget and Projection 2 (P2) direct material Financial monitoring for the site.
  •   Requires travel < 10% of the time.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, and/or Operations; Certified Purchasing Manager/Certified in Planning and Inventory Management/Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPM/CPIM/CPSM) preferred.  Experience with direct materials procurement preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of work experience
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in high pressure environment, strict attention to detail, successful negotiation, collaboration, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive, collaborative approach to problem solving.  Demonstrated success working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated high degree of independence, requiring minimal supervision from senior management.
  • Thrives working in a fast-paced environment and proven ability to manage multiple projects/tasks effectively.
  • Experience in a matrix organization preferred.

Compensation Overview:

Phoenix - AZ - US: $64,350 - $77,971

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
