We’re a technology company that leads with our humanity—driving our business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact.

How You Will Contribute:

We are looking for a dynamic and versatile engineer to support Ciena’s Network Management Applications and Network Design Tools. Key focus of the role will be on our domain controller:  Navigator Network Control Suite. Navigator NCS provides end-to-end lifecycle operations that unify network and service management and online network planning through software-defined control.

You will be part of the Solutions Engineering & Introduction team within the Product Line Management organization. As a key technical player on this team, you will ensure engineering readiness for the deployment of our solutions in the field. You will develop and present a series of technical deliverables that enable the introduction of new product features and solution functionality.

This is a customer-facing technical role with a focus on working side-by-side with customer technical experts to set up, demonstrate and explain Ciena technology through "hands on" testing for product evaluation and certification. This position will also include the creation of customer specific documentation and the execution of acceptance test cases.

You will have the opportunity to interface with Ciena’s largest customers and will be at the forefront as we position our next generation solutions. You will directly contribute to winning new strategic business opportunities by demonstrating our leadership in the industry.

  • As a technical prime, you will lead lab engineering activities such as installing, configuring, integrating, and testing Navigator Multi-layer Controller with Advanced Applications / Planning tools to assess / characterize functionality, performance, security, etc.
  • You will drive customer engagements which include product and solution proof of concepts, demos, lab / field trials. In the process, you will capture product issues and customer requests for enhancements that could be embedded into upcoming releases.
  • You will develop technical documents, test plans, knowledge transfer charts, videos that explain product architecture, features, and capabilities.
  • You will support account teams with pre- and post-sales engineering activities that include technical consultation, solution/application evaluation and design, and other engineering Q&A support.
  • You will engage the customers, assess their needs / requirements, and collaborate with the Ciena Product Management team to define / influence roadmaps.

What Does Ciena Expect of You?

  • Attention to detail – able to meticulously execute test plans or method of procedure while thoroughly documenting results in a comprehensive matter.
  • Agility – you thrive in high-pressure situations during lab activities and technical issue resolution.  You multitask and readily adapt to changing environments, projects, priorities, and business drivers.
  • A sense of urgency – what’s important to the customer is equally important to you.  You make getting things done a priority.
  • Communication – the ability to work with customers and account teams to understand requirements and priorities, use your technical expertise to develop the optimal solution, and tailor your message, ideas and presentations to the audience to ensure understanding and agreement.
  • The flexibility to work independently and as part of a broader team – you thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment, but are comfortable working independently as required.
  • Relationship builder – with a proven ability to influence and work with others.
