Job Description

As an engineer in the ICP-MS Software R&D team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, testing, and debugging software programs and tools that enable the operation and control of Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). These systems are essential for high-precision chemical analysis and life science applications.

You will be responsible for the full software development lifecycle—from gathering customer requirements to product release and post-sales support. Your work will directly contribute to the performance, usability, and innovation of Agilent’s next-generation ICP-MS platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust software solutions for ICP-MS instruments, ensuring high reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Design and implement complex features and system components, including seamless integration with data integrity and compliance platforms.
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies to explore new technologies, development methodologies, and application concepts that enhance product capabilities and user experience.
  • Solve high-impact technical challenges, including diverse and complex customer application issues.
  • Document research findings, design specifications, and implementation details to support cross-functional collaboration and long-term maintainability.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams in feature development, integration and delivery.
  • Apply domain knowledge of ICP-MS applications to define and validate design concepts and development strategies.
  • Facilitate the transition of new designs and enhancements into full-scale production and deployment.
  • Provide technical mentorship to inexperienced engineers, fostering growth and ensuring high-quality engineering practices.
  • Continuously explore and assess cutting-edge technologies and development environments to enhance software features and engineering excellence.

Qualifications

Must-Have Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering field (preferably in physics, chemistry, mathematics, electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, or information and communication technology).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in software development using object-oriented programming techniques.
  • Experience conducting technical investigations and research work.
  • Strong motivation to learn and master new technologies.
  • Strong willingness and ability to acquire knowledge necessary for analytical instrument development.
  • Proactive attitude toward tackling difficult problems.
  • Willingness to actively communicate with team members and collaborators across different teams and sites.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written English.
  • Proficiency in Japanese communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing Windows applications using C# and the .NET framework.
  • Experience developing Windows applications that control instruments or devices.
  • Experience using analytical instruments (experience with quadrupole mass spectrometers is a plus).
  • Ability to communicate in spoken English.

This job has a full time weekly schedule.
