The ideal engineer will serve as the lead developer for a suite of critical tools and a new web application that replaces a legacy Excel/VBA Design Practice (DP) applicability tool. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, maintaining, and releasing software that supports extraction and delivery of DP data across disciplines, large-scale content updates, automated quality bots, and data mirroring to enterprise process teams.  

 

The role includes ownership of baselined requirements, architecture, design, code, and test artifacts for the web application, implementation of questionnaire-driven filtering of DP data, presentation of results to end users, and persistence of questionnaire responses and outcomes. Operating within a multi-disciplined Agile environment, the position requires building and maintaining APIs, implementing automated testing and CI/CD practices, and participating in change control and configuration management to ensure software quality, safety, and traceability. Technical leadership is expected, including mentoring engineers, coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders, troubleshooting production issues, and guiding release processes.

Position Responsibilities:   

  • Serve as lead developer for BASE tools (design, development, test, deployment, and sustainment):  

  • DPL Tool — produce Design Practice lists (extractions of all Directive data) across 12 Engineering Disciplines. 
  • Bulk Updater — implement and maintain bulk-update capability to modify PBC content at scale (e.g., thousands of pages). 
  • Bots — develop and maintain automated bots for quality checks, defect list generation, notifications, and phased auto-change capabilities (initial Bot rollout in current sprint). 
  • Mirroring — deliver formatted DP data to Process Sets/Enterprise Software standards, templates, and checklist owners. 
  • Take over as lead software developer for a new web application: 

  • Maintain baselined requirements, architecture, design, implementation, and test artifacts. 

  • Replace legacy Excel/VBA DP applicability tool: implement questionnaire-based filtering of DP data, present results to users, and persist results with questionnaire responses. 

  • Design, implement, and maintain APIs for read/write access to DP and content stores. 

  • Implement automated testing across unit, integration, and system levels; participate in CI/CD pipeline development and release management. 

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and technical grooming. 

  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to engineers and collaborators; coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders (process, standards, content owners). 

  • Ensure software meets quality, safety, and configuration management requirements and follows change control processes. 

  • Provide troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production support as needed. 

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):  

  • 5+ years professional experience as a software developer.

  • 3+ years' experience in Python for design, implementation, and test automation. 

  • Experience designing and using RESTful APIs; able to implement read and write flows. 

  • 3+ years’ experience of the software engineering lifecycle and testing types (unit, integration, system, regression). 

  • Practical experience working in Agile teams and contributing to Agile processes. 

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):  

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. 

  • Experience with Linux-based development and deployment environments. 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills: technical lead experience, mentorship, and cross-team coordination. 

  • Hands-on experience with JIRA for backlog and issue management. 

  • Experience with GitLab (or equivalent SCM) including CI/CD pipelines. 

  • Web application development experience (server-side Python frameworks, front-end proficiency as required to deliver the questionnaire/results UI). 

  • Familiarity with Design Practices, process sets, or similar engineering content workflows. 

  • Experience with source control management foundation and release creation processes. 

  • Experience with MediaWiki and wikitext for content integration and bulk updates. 

  • Prior experience building automation/bot systems for content quality or workflow automation. 

  • Familiarity with enterprise content storage, templating, and data mirroring approaches. Strong communication skills, ability to capture and maintain requirements, and create traceability between requirements, design, and tests.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.   

 

Summary pay range for Experienced Level: $110,500 - $172,500
