Solution Architect – Speech-to-Speech (Telco / Real-Time AI Solutions)

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect with a strong background in real-time communication systems, speech processing, and telco-grade architectures to lead the design and evolution of our Speech-to-Speech Translation Platform.

This product combines real-time audio streaming, AI-based translation, and CCaaS integration to deliver seamless live multilingual communication between callers and agents. You will define end-to-end architecture — from media handling (WebRTC, RTP, STT/TTS) and orchestration flows (OpenAI RT, Azure Speech) to integration with CCaaS ecosystems (Twilio, Amazon Connect, LiveKit, Hello Media Server).

You will collaborate closely with AI engineers, backend developers, and DevOps teams to ensure low latency, resilience, and scalability across distributed voice pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the system architecture for the Speech-to-Speech solution, covering real-time streaming, orchestration, and CCaaS integration layers.

  • Design scalable, low-latency audio streaming and processing pipelines (STT → Translate → TTS) using OpenAI Realtime API, Azure Speech, or custom AI pipelines.

  • Architect real-time orchestration components (session handling, call mapping, agent registry, and translation routing).

  • Oversee design of WebSocket gateways, media servers, and signal routing for duplex speech translation flows.

  • Define integration patterns with CCaaS and telephony systems, including Twilio TaskRouter, Amazon Connect Streams API, and LiveKit SFU.

  • Ensure system resilience through queueing policies, state tracking, agent presence, and failover/retry logic.

  • Collaborate with the AI/LLM team to embed contextual translation intelligence and suggestion pipelines (real-time hints, confidence metrics, rephrasing).

  • Work with DevOps on infrastructure as code (Terraform), scalability design, and monitoring via Application Insights / Prometheus / Elastic.

  • Drive architecture reviews, design documentation (C4 model), and contribute to build-vs-reuse strategies (e.g., Hello Media Server vs Twilio).

  • Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure encryption, data privacy (PII redaction), and audit logging across media flows.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in software architecture, with at least 5 years in real-time audio or telecommunication systems.

  • Deep understanding of real-time communication protocols: SIP, RTP, WebRTC, WS/WSS, jitter buffering, and VAD.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures (Azure preferred) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

  • Proven experience in AI-assisted communication systems — particularly Speech-to-Text (STT), Machine Translation (MT), and Text-to-Speech (TTS) integration.

  • Strong understanding of event-driven and microservice architectures (Python, Node.js, or Go-based systems).

  • Experience integrating with contact center platforms (CCaaS) such as Twilio, Amazon Connect, NICE, or Genesys Cloud.

  • Solid knowledge of message routing, presence management, queueing algorithms, and session orchestration.

  • Demonstrated ability to optimize for low latency, fault tolerance, and horizontal scalability.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, able to work cross-functionally across AI, backend, and infra teams.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with LiveKit, Hello Media Server, or similar SFU-based architectures.

  • Familiarity with LLM-based real-time reasoning (OpenAI Realtime API, LangChain).

  • Knowledge of agent assist UI integration (React-based widget for live transcription, translation, and suggestion).

  • Prior experience designing AI-in-the-loop systems for human + machine collaboration.

  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (GDPR, PCI, PII redaction in voice).
