Description:

POSITION PURPOSE 

Responsible for driving the patient shuttle vans and transporting area patients of MercyOne Clinton / MercyOne Genesis to/from facilities throughout MercyOne Eastern Iowa Region. Operates a secure and accessible van equipped to provide safe, non-emergency transport of individuals needing transportation to and from appointments and/or for discharge from medical center.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Adheres to the principles of caring and expected behaviors outlined in MercyOne Medical Center ‘s Care Model and Trinity Health’s Code of Conduct, fostering a climate where all customers are treated in a manner consistent with MercyOne Medical Center’s Mission and Values. 

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior. 

Delivers direct patient care by providing assistance required to safely board the vehicles. Ensure patients, wheelchairs, assistive devices and patient belongings are secured before starting the van. Depending on route, destination and patient safety, may transport more than one patient at a time.  

Supervises patients during transport, perform CPR if required during transport and alert emergency services by calling 911 in emergent situations.  

Upon arrival at the facility, assist patients exiting the vehicle, escorting them to the hand-off location, giving verbal reports to accepting staff members, checks the vehicle for personal items and completes trip log 

Driver is responsible for immediately reporting traffic accidents by calling 911, requesting police or ambulance services as needed and reports to Director when safe. Responsible for safety checks, maintenance and service of patient shuttle vehicles. 

Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed. 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment so as to foster a positive public image for MercyOne Clinton Medical Center.   

Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.) 

Must be a safe driver with acceptable driving record and valid and appropriate US driver's license for the shuttle vehicles (CDL/Chauffer’s License). 

Must exhibit independent thinking in performing job functions. 

Must have above average recall abilities in order to perform technical job functions. 

Must possess the ability to effectively and courteously communicate with customers and members of the pharmacy, medical and hospital staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Must be 18 years of age 

Valid US Driver’s License (preferably CDL-although not required) 

Must be able to demonstrate a good driving record verifiable with the DMV in the applicant’s state of residence. 

Experience in driving large vehicle over 20,000 pounds. 

Basic knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance. 

Security background preferred, previous experience in private security, public law enforcement, or military duty extremely helpful but not essential.
