Shift Manager Operations

Northshore Mining - Silver Bay Full time

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Shift Manager Operations at our Northshore Mining Company facility in Silver Bay, MN. The primary responsibility of this position will be to direct and monitor the performance of the Operations crews associated with the Fine Crusher & Concentrator or the Pellet Plant. This will include direct supervision and leadership of the Operations workforce.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Be a champion of safety and environmental through interactions, safety meetings and by example.
  • Conduct weekly safety and information meetings within area.
  • Coach, direct, and develop the work of the operations technicians to meet and exceed safety and productivity goals.
  • Communicate operational plans to all crew members including job assignments and associated tasks.
  • Management of personnel within the following areas: performance, training, promotion reviews, scheduling, overtime, crew safety and production meetings.
  • Coordinate the weekly projects for your area across departments to maximize results and minimize impacts on daily production.
  • Review and analyze critical process metrics with employees and follow through as necessary.
  • Report out at daily operational meetings on department performance.
  • Document and investigate safety and environmental incidents; and partner on corrective actions.
  • Ensure equipment & areas assigned to your crews are maintained to standard.
  • Prioritize daily break-in work for instrument, electrical, and mechanical in conjunction with the Maintenance Shift Managers and direct shift maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in, support, and lead business improvement efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Vocational degree in related field or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Previous successful leadership experience is required. 
  • Understand and be able to communicate and implement safety, mine and MSHA rules, environmental policies and procedures.
  • Possess communication and leadership skills necessary to direct operations and maintenance crew members to operate efficiently and effectively. 
  • Ability to deal with conflict effectively and develop relationships, trust and respect with other employees.
  • Possess strong computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office software. 
  • Proven ability to plan and coordinate multiple work tasks with a variety of employees, departments, and outside contractors. 
  • Capable of making and implementing decisions in an efficient and timely fashion.
  • Facilitate the development of employees by providing constructive feedback and continuous coaching.

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $110,000.  An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
