As part of the Parcel Services team, it is your responsibility to work collaboratively with the Sales Managers, and customers to identify and analyze any Revision, Modification and Retrofit (RMR) needs. The Services Support Engineer will provide technical and project support for parcel automation customers including UPS, FedEx, and DHL.
This role is responsible for leading customer inquiries, troubleshooting system issues, and executing small retrofit or modification projects involving both PLC controls and electro-mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong PLC knowledge and a service-oriented mindset, capable of managing technical tasks while maintaining excellent customer communication.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary technical point of contact for assigned parcel customers, ensuring timely response and resolution to service inquiries.
- Lead Service Order retrofit or modification projects from concept to completion, including scope definition, design coordination, and on-site implementation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve controls and mechanical system issues on installed MHS systems.
- Develop and implement PLC program modifications using Allen-Bradley or Siemens platforms.
- Coordinate with internal engineering, parts, and field service teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Support layout and system design activities for retrofit solutions and capacity enhancements.
- Provide technical documentation, reports, and updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety, quality, and performance standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Parcel Services Organization.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering; or equivalent technical experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Material Handling Systems (MHS), industrial automation, or a related field.
- Proven experience with Allen-Bradley (RSLogix, Studio 5000) and Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7) PLC systems.
- Working knowledge of field devices, VFDs, and network communication protocols (PROFINET, Ethernet/IP).
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems within conveyor or sortation environments.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and layout designs.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically for project or service support for short periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with logistical processes and system design is preferred.
- Exposure to layout engineering and system design tools (AutoCAD, EPLAN).
- Familiarity with parcel automation technologies, including conveyors, sorters, and control systems within the UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon networks.
- Experience supporting project managers through planning, handover, and execution phases.
- Proficiency in Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively across multilingual teams and customer groups is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to climb a 2-story ladder
- Able to walk a mile in 20 minutes
- Able to lift to 30 lbs. without difficulty
- Capable of working 10 hours standing / sitting / walking / climbing stairs
- Must be comfortable working in an office setting and a factory / construction environment
