Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Structural Engineer. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel (GBSD) program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leading review and approval of subcontractor analysis methods and documentation
Providing technical direction to subcontractors, ensuring adherence to the SDS analysis best practices, processes, and requirements.
Organizing and leading subcontractor status meetings, Intermittent Design Reviews, SDRL reviews, and other collaborative efforts as needed
Balancing stringent quality standards for technical artifacts (e.g. Analysis Data Packages, Product Data Packages) with the rapid pace of procurement, fabrication, and construction of test assets and early prototypes.
Presenting information to Program Management to make informed decisions between conflicting technical approaches based upon program and IPT-level cost, schedule, and technical impacts and risk.
Championing process improvements, analysis methodologies, and testing plans that allow systems engineering, design engineering, and analysis teams to define, validate, and accept delivery of high quality products in a cost and time efficient manner.
Decomposing direction from S&T leadership and Office of the Chief Engineer to external technical teams performing work and ensuring understanding and adherence to that direction.
Negotiating competing priorities and interests across a wide range of internal and external stakeholder communities to pursue the best course of action for the Sentinel program.
Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of distinct internal organizations, customer communities, subcontractors, and industry partners.
Providing regular briefings, reports, and other communications to executive leadership.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of experience, or 12 years of experience with a Master's degree; 10 years of experience with PHD
Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of tools - Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
Strong understanding of engineering and structural analysis principles, processes and applications (Static, Dynamic, and Fatigue analysis methods, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and design/analysis of welded structures). Hands on experience in project management and subcontractor analysis reviews
Demonstrated experience leading a team of analysts, leading a project, and mentoring junior engineers
Excellent communication skills with experience presenting complex analysis concepts to program leadership and maintaining positive relationships with outside stakeholders
Extensive ANSYS FEA software experience.
Relevant experience must include analysis of large mechanical/structural equipment.
Be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
Exposure to missiles program requirements, transportation equipment, and MIL-STD-810G
Experience with NX CAD modeling software and CPLM
Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations
