About the Opportunity
The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Research Department has an immediate opening for a Senior Regional Economist and co-lead of a new workforce pathways initiative, reporting to the Vice President for Economic Sensing & Engagement.
In this role, the successful candidate supports the Bank's economic sensing and engagement efforts through a number of activities that include presentations on workforce pipelines and needs and the overall labor market. Both economic updates and workforce presentations will be provided to internal and external audiences, including Boards of Directors, Richmond Fed councils, workforce organizations, civic organizations, and professional associations. The candidate will lead or co-lead Bank strategic initiatives related to understanding workforce pathways for youth and young adults and how those pathways foster maximum employment. The candidate must monitor and analyze regional conditions, create messaging around workforce pathways and labor market health, develop tools and methods to track workforce outcomes, provide briefings to the Bank President and other executives, and maintain relationships in civic, academic, and business communities. Business outreach will include gathering information from contacts to support the regional outreach program. The candidate will also engage with the media.
The position will be based in Richmond, VA, Baltimore, MD, or Charlotte, NC and outreach will span Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and D.C.

What You Will Do:
Support the Bank's regional outreach by giving presentations to internal and external audiences on workforce pipelines and needs and the overall labor market.
Lead or co-lead Bank strategic initiatives related to understanding workforce pathways for youth and young adults and how those pathways foster maximum employment.
Monitor and analyze regional economic and community conditions. Develop tools and methods to identify and track changes in workforce conditions.
Contribute economic analysis and commentary content to Bank's website.
Develop and maintain contacts in academic and business communities. Gather information on business conditions from contacts in a timely manner.
Communicate with the media when necessary
Qualifications:
3 – 5 or more years of relevant work experience.
Graduate degree or Ph.D. in Economics required.
Experience working on workforce development issues, either as an academic or as a practitioner, required.
Demonstrated desire to conduct outreach to a wide variety of audiences.
A comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and regional economic conditions and a commitment to keep abreast of emerging trends or changes.
Demonstrated desire to engage strategically with the public on economic and policy topics translate economic information into reports and presentations.
Outstanding attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in time management to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and to meet schedule deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft software.
Knowledge of and experience with statistical software tools like Stata or SAS.

The hiring range for this position is $132,300 – $165,300 annually.
Salary offered will be based on the job responsibilities and the individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience as defined in the job qualifications.
