Senior Platform Engineer

Remote Full Time

As a Senior Platform Engineer at PublicSquare you will be part of a team that builds and supports critical infrastructure, security, and SRE capabilities for the entire organization. You will work closely with engineering, security, and IT teams to solve new problems, optimize existing solutions, and constantly improve the availability, security, and maintainability of our technology platform. We are looking for someone with a solid engineering background who has transitioned to focus on infrastructure, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment.

You will work with GCP (Cloud Run, GKE, CloudSQL, Memorystore, BigQuery, KMS, GCS), GitHub, GitHub Actions,OpsGenie, Terraform, Docker, MongoDB, Postgres, Redis, Cloudflare, Red Panda, Kafka Connect, Auth0 and other technologies.

This role demands a balance of technical expertise, leadership experience, and excellent communication skills. It requires someone who is team-oriented, technology savvy, and driven to produce quality products. You will work collaboratively with fellow engineers, project owners, and engineering leaders. Our ideal candidate is someone who loves the idea of helping both develop technology and the business.

This is a full-time W2 position.

Role Summary

  • Deliver timely, high-quality infrastructure solutions using IaC and automation
  • Own execution of the development roadmap and operational excellence, focusing on cost optimization, scalability, system reliability, observability, and incident response
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on infrastructure and architecture for the organization
  • Enable developer productivity through self-service tooling and streamlined infrastructure workflows
  • Communicate clearly to ensure alignment and performance across technical teams

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering leadership team in determining the company’s technical vision and participate in the company’s product development
  • Partner with the Product team to help execute differentiating capabilities
  • Work in a consultative fashion with other teams as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness
  • Promote and uphold development best practices and infrastructure standards
  • Serve as escalation point in tier 2/3 production support on-call rotation
  • Build and advocate for resilient, self-healing infrastructure that minimizes operational burden and on-call incidents
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, frameworks, and automation patterns
  • Proactively work to develop individuals on the team; to help them stay current and skilled
  • Collaborate effectively in a high-performing team using agile principles

Requirements

  • At least 7 years experience in a software engineering role
  • At least 5 years experience using GCP, AWS, or Azure, including automation experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting critical infrastructure for applications at scale
  • Strong scripting and automation skills in Bash and Python
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Go, Kotlin,  Javascript/TypeScript and .NET
  • Experience optimizing infrastructure for cost
  • Honest and fair with both their team members as well as their colleagues
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and conduct technical research to inform strategy

Nice-to-have

  • Degree in computer science or closely related field
  • Knowledge of PCI and SOC2 Compliance best practices

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel as needed, including by plane, car, or public transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally (e.g., laptop, marketing materials, or trade show equipment).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone, video conferencing, and email.
  • Ability to attend in-person meetings, conferences, or events, which may require standing or walking for extended periods.
