Collins Aerospace, is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer with expertise in composites manufacturing with focus on progressing process maturity. This role is critical in driving the development, optimization, and execution of manufacturing processes for complex composite structures and assemblies. The ideal candidate will leverage their deep knowledge of composite materials, machining techniques, and post-bond processes to ensure operational excellence, product quality, and on-time delivery.

*This is an onsite production-oriented position operating in a manufacturing shop environment*

What You Will Do:

  • Work 6:30am - 3pm Monday- Friday

  • Develop, implement, and optimize composite manufacturing processes.

  • Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure manufacturability of composite parts and assemblies.

  • Design and procure specialized tooling, jigs, and fixtures for composite processing.

  • Work with equipment suppliers to specify, install, and qualify equipment, ensuring compliance with performance and safety standards.

  • Lead initiatives to improve process maturity including increased efficiency, reduced cycle time, and enhanced quality in composite manufacturing processes.

  • Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to drive continuous improvement.

  • Delivers technical and strategic communication to a broad audience, adjusting message complexity, tone, and format as needed.

  • Partner with quality engineering to establish and maintain process controls, ensuring composite components meet or exceed specifications.

  • Drive complex root cause analyses and corrective actions for non-conformance issues.

  • Provide technical support to production teams by troubleshooting and resolving issues.

  • Ensure minimal downtime and maintain smooth shop floor operations through OEE optimization and improved productivity as measured through KPI’s.

  • Participate in the design and development of new composite products, ensuring seamless transition from engineering to production.

  • Create and maintain detailed work instructions, process specifications, and technical documentation.

  • Owns PFMEA, PFD & JHA's and drives vigorous application of APQP / CORE tools

  • Train production teams and junior engineers on composite manufacturing best practices and safety protocols through formal or OJT training.

  • Ensure all processes comply with Collins Aerospace standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.

  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility within the manufacturing environment

  • Anticipate future challenges, such as capacity, quality, and technologies limitations, and create cross-functional plans to proactively address.

  • Advance the digital manufacturing maturity and participates in development and deployment of digital solutions.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience

  • Experience in composite materials and manufacturing methods

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience in the aerospace or defense industry, with knowledge of AS9100 standards.

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing planning tools.

  • Certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or expertise in Lean Manufacturing methodologies.

  • Certifications in project management such as Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks) and familiarity with CNC programming for composite machining.

  • Experience with CNC, robotics, and other automation/advanced manufacturing technologies.

The salary range for this role is 90,000 USD - 182,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
