This is a newly created role within the second line of defense, focused on model risk oversight across the bank. The Senior Manager will lead the reporting function for model risk, including:

  • Regulatory Reporting: Ensuring accurate and timely submission of model risk data to regulators.

  • Executive Risk Reporting: Preparing high-level summaries for the Risk Management Committee, highlighting the status and trends of model risk across the enterprise.

  • Team Oversight: Managing 2/ 3 offshore resources, though no direct BMO reports.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working across risk stripes and business units to support the design and implementation of model risk metrics and dashboards.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Strong background in risk reporting (model risk preferred, but other risk types acceptable).

  • Experience reporting to senior committees.

  • Proficiency in Python and Power BI (dashboard development support available).

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to extract insights from data.

  • Minimum 2-3 years in a Senior Manager capacity or equivalent senior-level experience.

Supports the design and execution of accurate and efficient reporting solutions for model risk to internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies. Supports an efficient and effective model risk management function by using common information sources and practices to produce insights and trending that inform risk management, operations, and business decision making.

  • Designs, develops, and implements reporting solutions and dashboards to meet management and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Analyzes data and information to generate insights on emerging issues, trends, and opportunities and makes recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Supports the design, monitoring, and measurement of key risk indicators to internal & external stakeholders.

  • Ensures strong governance and effective controls across model risk reporting activities and information in accordance with enterprise standards.

  • Leads the development and maintenance of the model risk reporting framework.

  • Develops and manages comprehensive information management systems; designs and/or leads initiatives to improve processes, analysis and reporting.

  • Measures the effectiveness of the model risk reporting program/strategy; recommends changes as required.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies and represents the model risk reporting function during internal/external regulatory audits and/or examinations.

  • Interprets internal/external policies and new regulations and assesses impacts to the model risk reporting strategy/program framework.

  • Supports the development of tools and delivery of training focused on awareness and understanding of key data elements used in model risk reporting.

  • Supports the maintenance of operational procedures and processes related to analytical and reporting processes.

  • Participates in the design, implementation and management of core business processes to ensure the accuracy of risk data used in reporting.

  • Provides information and supports the process for internal and external audits.

  • Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.

  • Operates at an enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.

  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically, 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • In-depth/expert knowledge of risk management metrics, KPIs and KRIs.

  • In-depth/expert knowledge of industry trends and regulatory requirements for model risk reporting.

  • In-depth / expert knowledge and understanding of the model life cycle, model risk management practices.

  • In-depth / expert knowledge & experience with risk policy frameworks; quality control / testing frameworks.

  • In-depth/expert knowledge of reporting & analytics concepts and applications.

  • Data analysis and visualization skills – In-depth / Expert

  • Data-driven decision-making skills – In-depth / Expert

  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth / Expert.

Salary:

$86,000.00 - $160,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
