Job Description:
Copia is seeking a Sr. Manager, High Voltage Engineering. This role provides technical leadership and project execution oversight across utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), combustion turbine plants, and load-served data center campus developments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-voltage (HV) engineering decisions are consistently aligned, managing engineering consultants and contractors, and driving creative solutions for substations and interconnection facilities. This is a hybrid position, and we are seeking candidates who will work out of our Salt Lake City, UT, Portland, OR, Washington DC, or Dana Point, CA locations.
The Sr. Manager, High Voltage Engineering will report directly to the Director, High Voltage Engineering. This is an individual contributor role, working alongside the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC), and Development team members.
Key Responsibilities:
High Voltage Project Execution:
•Develop HV work scopes and technical contract exhibits.
•Manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors to produce construction drawings and supporting materials.
•Oversee technical project due diligence and design reviews.
•Coordinate feedback from internal stakeholders and Owner’s Engineering consultants.
•Support commissioning activities and resolve technical issues at operating sites.
•Conduct site visits and QA/QC checks as needed.
High Voltage Project Development:
•Develop HV strategies for substations and interconnection facilities across PV, BESS, data centers, and combustion turbine projects.
•Provide high-level conceptual designs and guide consultants to detailed solutions.
•Support budget, schedule, and technical inputs for development and acquisition projects.
•Value engineer HV designs for reliability and cost efficiency.
•Assist Development, Project Management, and Commercial Execution teams with budget and schedule inputs.
•Develop and implement technical solutions to region-specific requirements.
•Write and review specifications for HV equipment.
Growth & Leadership:
•Contribute to process improvement initiatives for safe, high-quality project delivery.
•Stay current on HV technology trends and emerging vendor solutions.
•Collaborate closely with Development, Procurement, and Execution teams.
•Mentor future team members as the HV group grows.

Minimum Qualifications:
•10+ years of experience in HV substation and/or transmission line design and/or construction.
•10+ years of project management, consulting, or project engineering experience.
•Professional Engineering license preferred.
•Bachelor’s degree preferred
•Experience managing third-party consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
•Proficient with MS Office Suite; experience with Procore or similar platforms preferred.
•Ability to work in the Copia Office (Salt Lake City, UT, Portland, OR, Washington DC, or Dana Point, CA) a minimum of 3 days per week.
•Ability to travel up to 25%.
