We are seeking a Senior Environment Artist II with a focus on building high-quality, visually stunning regions that immerse players in our game worlds to join our team. The Senior Environment Artist II will be responsible for taking large areas from initial concept through to final polish, collaborating closely with level design, lighting, and narrative teams to ensure each region feels alive and memorable.

Your expertise in Unreal Engine 5 and Maya will be critical in crafting environments that balance aesthetics, performance, and gameplay flow. This role is ideal for a seasoned artist who thrives on ownership of large-scale spaces while mentoring others on the team. This position will report to the Lead Environment Artist.

Responsibilities

  • Own and develop large-scale game regions from blockout to final art pass, ensuring both artistic quality and gameplay functionality
  • Collaborate with Technical Artist, Level Designers, and Engineers to ensure environments support gameplay goals, narrative beats, and player navigation
  • Create high-quality 3D assets, terrain, foliage, architecture, and props using Maya, ZBrush, and other industry-standard tools
  • Implement and optimize assets within Unreal Engine 5, ensuring performance targets are met without sacrificing visual quality
  • Work closely with the Lighting and VFX teams to achieve atmospheric and mood-driven spaces
  • Lead a small team of Environment Artists in the creation of multiple game maps
  • Mentor junior and mid-level environment artists, providing feedback, technical guidance, and best practices
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of environment art pipelines and documentation
  • Collaborate with concept artists to translate 2D designs into fully realized 3D spaces
  • Playtest with the studio, design, and art teams to iterate based on playtest feedback and player experience

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional environment art experience in the AAA games industry
  • Strong portfolio showcasing AAA-quality environment art, including examples of full region or level ownership
  • Proven track record of creating high-quality game environments from start to finish
  • Expert proficiency in Maya for modeling, UVs, and scene organization
  • Strong experience with Unreal Engine 5, including asset integration, material creation, and optimization techniques
  • Thorough understanding of performance constraints while working closely with technical artists to ensure Region content meets shipping standards and best practices
  • Skilled in using ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, or similar tools
  • Deep understanding of composition, color theory, lighting, and scale in 3D environments
  • Experience with modular asset creation and efficient world-building workflows
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize assets for performance
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

The estimated base pay range for this role is: $140,000 - $165,000 USD
