Senior Database Administrator

USA, TN, Chattanooga, Remote Full time

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Database Administrator with strong expertise in MongoDB and familiarity with DB2 on z/OS. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You’ll be responsible for designing, securing, automating, and maintaining enterprise-grade database platforms while supporting modernization and cloud migration initiatives.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience designing, installing, and configuring MongoDB on Linux platforms

  • Proven ability to automate backup, restore, and monitor tasks using Shell scripting

  • Experience documenting MongoDB installations, operations, and security across multiple environments (including cloud platforms)

  • Strong experience with MongoDB security, including TLS authentication and SSL key configuration

  • In-depth knowledge of Compass and MongoDB Ops Manager, including upgrades, groups, and project configurations

  • Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation

  • Hands-on experience with z/OS, and JCL (training is available)

  • Familiarity with IBM DB2 utilities and tools (training is available)

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilizing logical models to ensure efficient and reliable database performance.
  • Designing and developing logical and physical layers for various databases. Leading in handling data testing, reporting, back-ups and restorations.
  • Managing and maintaining data in all production and non-production databases and replication servers.
  • Providing technical assistance and mentoring staff on developing conceptual and logical database designs and physical databases.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Computer Sciences related field or equivalent work experience

Experience

  • 5 years - Systems and programming experience required

Skills\Certifications

  • Proven skill with information technology in use at BCBST is required
  • Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers
