Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We’re seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist to transform complex data into actionable insights that drive decision-making across the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and the wider Transport sector. You’ll use your expertise in statistical modelling, machine learning, and programming (R, Python, SQL) to analyse and interpret data, develop reproducible code, and deliver evidence-based outcomes.
This role combines technical expertise with the ability to tell compelling stories through data visualisation, plain-English reporting, and collaboration across teams. Experience with Azure, Databricks, and innovative approaches to solving new problems will set you apart.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $109,408 - $145,876 commensurate to skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public service.
