As a Senior Consultant, Hydrogeologist and Field Lead, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team (hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, fish and aquatics, and toxicology) and focus on integrating relevant functions to develop and execute groundwater field programs that provide value to our clients. You will contribute your technical and safety leadership, and communication skills to support the growth of ERM’s business and client base, while networking with ERM's global hydrogeology and water resources technical teams to share multi-disciplinary resources and best practices across the industry. Your responsibilities:

  • Assist senior hydrogeologists in planning field programs including but not limited to drilling, installation and testing of monitoring and pumping wells, and multi-year groundwater and surface water monitoring and sampling.

  • Plan and coordinate field logistics for personnel and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with company, site-specific, and client health and safety protocols.

  • Supervise drilling and installation of shallow and deep monitoring wells, pumping wells, collect drill cuttings including soil, rock and core samples and classify using unified soil classification system.

  • Install and download data from data loggers and vibrating wire piezometers.

  • Can manage and perform QA/QC of data collection in a field setting.

  • Familiar with multiple field techniques to obtain aquifer characteristics including the following testing methodologies, slug, step-drawdown, and constant rate pumping.

  • Conduct groundwater sampling using various methods (e.g., low-flow, HydraSleeve, and peristaltic pumps).

  • The ability to troubleshoot in a field setting.

  • Analyze slug, step and pump test data by applying hydrogeological analytical solutions using industry-standard software (e.g., AQTESOLV, AquiferTest Pro).

  • Prepare technical reports, memoranda, proposals, and presentations in collaboration with senior hydrogeologists.

  • Contribute to business development by supporting proposal preparation and maintaining strong client relationships.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.Sc. degree in geoscience, hydrogeology, engineering, or a related field with strong academic credentials in physical and contaminant hydrogeology.

  • 3+ years of consulting experience in hydrogeology field work planning and execution, groundwater data analysis, and reporting.

  • Eligible for trainee (E.I.T/G.I.T.) or professional geoscientist/engineer (P.Eng./P.Geo.) designation in a Canadian jurisdiction.

  • Experience in leading field programs for baseline hydrogeological and impact assessment projects, including:

    • Drilling and installation of shallow and deep groundwater monitoring and pumping wells.

    • Groundwater and surface water monitoring and sampling programs.

    • Aquifer characterization and hydraulic conductivity testing (e.g., pumping, step-drawdown, and slug tests).

  • Skilled in managing field personnel and subcontractors for extended programs in remote and challenging environments.

  • Proficient in reducing and analyzing field data to determine aquifer properties (e.g., hydraulic conductivity, transmissivity, storativity) and estimating sustainable yields using AQTESOLV, AquiferTest Pro, and Surfer.

  • Strong understanding of physical and contaminant hydrogeology processes in mining, oil and gas, and industrial/commercial site contexts.

  • Excellent team building, mentorship, communication, and influencing skills; high integrity; and ability to address client and business needs effectively.

  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and collaborative with a positive outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships.

  • Inspired by contributing to ERM’s global success and open to supporting soil sampling and contaminated sites work as part of multidisciplinary teams.

  • Willingness to travel and spend time out of the office (up to 60%+ of time).

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4+ years of consulting experience preferred in hydrogeology field work planning and execution, groundwater data analysis, and reporting.

  • Experience with MODFLOW and/or FEFLOW is not required but will be considered an asset.

For the Senior Consultant, Hydrogeologist and Field Lead position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $73,609 – $83,047 (CAD).  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
