Due to ongoing success within the energy sector, Veolia is looking for a Senior Civil and Structural Design Engineer to join our growing Technical Direction Engineering Team. You’ll be pushing for innovative solutions to create a more sustainable future for us all. This role optimises civil and structural design for energy facilities to ensure value, safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with specifications, budgets, and legislation, while aligning with business objectives. The Senior Civil and Structural Design Engineer will participate in business projects up to £50m.

What you'll be doing:

  • Collaborate with the Technical Solutions Team to design initial site concept layouts for energy projects, prioritising operational efficiency, safety, flexibility, and buildability.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and design assessments with the MEP design team for energy projects, supporting the RIBA Stage 2 design process.

  • Provide support to the project development team with regards to the costing and programming of civil and structural works for each project.

  • Generate technical and performance specifications for inclusion in the employer's requirements for external detailed design contractors.

  • Review detailed design packages, providing technical governance and feedback focused on enhancing safety, performance, and achieving value engineering.

  • Participate in regular progress meetings during the tender, design, and construction phases of projects.

  • Maintain open communication with the Design, Engineering, Construction, and Operations departments regarding complex technical matters.

  • Ensure all civil and structural engineering work is designed and executed in full compliance with Veolia’s contractual obligations.

  • Serve as the specialist Civil and Structural Engineering resource for Project Managers and Technical Solutions Managers.

  • Liaise with operations, planning, and permitting teams to guarantee adherence to CDM regulations.
     

What we're looking for:

Essential Attributes

  • A qualified Civil and Structural Design Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Proficiency in the design of civil and structural elements for energy installations across a variety of facilities (e.g., commercial, industrial, NHS, district heating).

  • Working towards, or a commitment to achieving, Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or another recognised professional body.

  • Fundamental understanding of common construction contracts (e.g., NEC3, FIDIC Red Book) and environmental legislation.

  • Demonstrable ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external contractors, fostering strong working relationships.

Desirable Attributes

  • Proven skills in project management, time planning, and self-organisation, with a strong results-oriented approach.
