Position Overview
As a Senior Associate, Commercial Analytics, you will help advance Invenergy’s market analytics by supporting power market forecasting, transmission analysis, and project valuation across North America. This role blends strong market fundamentals with quantitative and analytical tools to improve the quality, consistency, and growing automation of insights that guide commercial and development strategy.
You will collaborate across Development, Trading, Origination, and Finance teams to translate market dynamics into actionable insights for both operating and development-stage projects. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in transmission and congestion fundamentals, is naturally curious and analytical, and is eager to apply and expand technical skills as part of a team continuously enhancing its modeling and analytical capabilities.
This position is on-site at Invenergy's headquarters in downtown Chicago, IL.
Responsibilities
Conduct transmission and congestion analyses to evaluate locational pricing, basis risk, and curtailment exposure across major ISO/RTO markets (PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, WECC, NYISO, IESO, CENACE).
Support short-term and long-term market assessments, including dispatch simulation, scenario analysis, and project valuation.
Use Python, SQL, or R to develop, refine, and enhance analytical workflows that support forecasting, valuation, and analysis.
Collaborate with internal teams to translate model results into strategic insights for project siting, operations, and trading strategy.
Contribute to the evolution of data-driven workflows, helping advance ongoing efforts to improve automation and analytical efficiency.
Communicate complex quantitative findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Maintain awareness of market fundamentals and transmission system dynamics, including congestion trends, nodal pricing, and constraint impacts.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
3+ years of experience in power market analysis, transmission modeling, or congestion studies.
Experience with ISO/RTO modeling tools such as Dayzer, PROMOD, PLEXOS, or equivalent internal/trading tools.
Understanding of LMP formation, power system topology, and transmission congestion fundamentals.
Proficiency in Python and/or SQL for quantitative analysis and data manipulation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate insights effectively across teams.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with power flow or congestion modeling tools (PowerWorld, TARA, or PSS®E).
Familiarity with Databricks, Spark, Azure, or other cloud-based analytics platforms.
Experience developing automated workflows, dashboards, or data pipelines to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
Interest in continuous learning and in contributing to a culture of technical growth and collaboration.
Experience collaborating through version-controlled development (e.g., Git).
Base Pay
The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
