Senior Accountant - Insurance Accounting

The Senior Financial Analyst – Captive Accounting plays a key role in Asurion’s Finance Organization, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial and accounting services. This position focuses on financial reporting and analysis for insurance and warranty programs across the US. 

This position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Captive Accounting, Program Management, Underwriting, and Client Services, to prepare and analyze reporting packages and support global month-end close processes.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate proactive communication and problem-solving skills within the Asurion Financial ecosystem. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely monthly cession statements and external captive reporting packages for AT&T and Cricket
  • Participate in month-end close activities, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Participate in UAT of reporting tools and automated reporting schedules
  • Contribute to identifying solutions to new and existing reporting issues in automation
  • Assist in designing simply ways to add required dimensionality to data sets to fulfill client expectations.  
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather and validate financial data and ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain strong controls and documentation for reporting processes.
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support audits and respond to related inquiries regarding AT&T and Cricket program financials.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Proven track record of academic and professional excellence.
  • A strong understanding of accrual accounting and its impacts on monthly financial results.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Three to Five years of experience in accounting function.
  • Intermediate to Advance experience with MS Excel.
  • Some experience with statistics and manipulating large data sets.
  • MBA or advanced degree a plus.
  • CPA designation or actively pursuing certification is a plus.
  • SQL and/or Power BI

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the insurance or captive insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of cession reporting and international financial regulations.
  • Experience working in a multi-national or matrixed organization.
  • SQL and/or Power BI

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

This position requires the ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex instructions, correspondence, legal documents, financial reports and/or technical documents.  In addition, the ability to respond effectively to clients, employees and management and handle sensitive and/or confidential communications is required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: 

This position requires proficiency in a variety of accounting and office applications including, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office Suite.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

This position requires advanced mathematical and statistical skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and interpret complex numbers, financial data and reports.  The ability to apply such concepts to create reports and financial records and present them effectively is also required.  Must be able to develop complex formulas to perform needed calculations and demonstrate how data was derived.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

No additional certificates, licenses or registrations are required for this position.   However, CPA certification or candidate pursuing certification is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The physical demands and working conditions of this position are like those found in a standard office environment.  Employee may spend 4-8 per day sitting and working at a computer.  The ability to adjust focus, use hands to grasp, finger, handle, reach or feel and sit for prolonged periods are needed for this position.

TRAVEL:

Some travel may be required on an individual project basis.  Travel may include overnight stay at the work location.
