Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and providing strategic insights to support business decisions. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day accounting operations activities including expense reports/system administration, bill review, and cash and credit card reconciliations for multiple portfolio companies. Management of the AR function as applicable.
  • Perform the month-end/quarter-end/year-end close activities timely and accurately, including posting and preparation of journal entries, external research and accrual tracking, and reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts for multiple portfolio companies in accordance with the monthly close calendar.  
  • Monthly update of forecast files with actuals and upload to NSPB, as well as troubleshooting/variance analysis of any discrepancies arising between the systems after the upload is complete.
  • Manage fixed assets and finance & operating leases, ensuring that policies and accounting guidance are followed.  Tracking of orders, delivery, and in-service dates.
  • Monthly administrative tasks including payroll reconciliations, benefits reconciliations, new-hire support and documentation, and additional ad hoc requirements as they arise, such as 83(b) preparation.
  • Coordinate and support annual audits (as applicable), statutory filings, debt compliance reporting, investor reporting, and tax filings, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared and available.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support business operations. This often includes but is not limited to: Labs teams/employees, FP&A, AP, Legal, Procurement, HR, and Payroll, as well as external stakeholders and investors.
  • Maintain and reconcile information across multiple systems, including NetSuite, NSPB, Expensify, Coupa, LeaseQuery, as well as support integration of any new systems and/or processes the team engages in.
  • Support company transitions as they grow up and grow out, as well as supporting mergers of existing companies.
  • Be an active participant in implementing accounting policies and procedures to improve financial processes and ensure compliance with regulations.

Qualitifactions:

  • CPA license
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in public accounting or a high-growth tech/life sciences company
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Experience with accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite or similar ERP)
  • Advanced Excel skills and a high degree of attention to detail

The salary range for this role is $88,000 - $121,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience. Flagship Pioneering currently offers healthcare coverage, annual incentive program, retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits.
