Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Security Specialist in the Security Department at our Cleveland Works location. The Security Specialist works directly with plant management and contract security officers to ensure proper security measures are in place and the department is in a position to respond to the facility’s security needs. This includes verification of adequate staffing; ensuring all personnel are prepared and that all vehicles and equipment are operational. The Security Specialist interacts with co-workers, maintains an awareness of related activities, and ensures proper notifications are made to key staff for any incidents that may occur, in accordance with plant and department policies and procedures.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- The security specialist provides specific support to plant or staff departments and divisions by using knowledge and skills to resolve issues within the framework of the specific function.
- Ensure calls for service are handled appropriately, reports are generated as required, proper documentation maintained, and matters warranting further investigation are handled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Help to ensure the department takes appropriate and reasonable actions to provide a safe working environment for employees and provides for the protection of company assets.
- The security specialist has full responsibility and freedom to act on all immediate matters that impact the overall security of the facility, including but not limited to: Access Control/ Random Inspections/ Emergency Response/ Criminal Investigations/ Interactions with outside Resources/ Traffic Enforcement/ and U.S. Homeland Security & Maritime Security related issues.
- The security specialist provides overall support to local internal stakeholder teams by consulting and collaborating with other members of the functional team as appropriate to provide reasonable advice or services as needed.
- Plays a role in coordinating the necessary resources for implementing process & service improvements, problem resolutions, or project completion.
- Uses appropriate critical thinking skills to provide input to decisions, commensurate with the autonomy, authority, and responsibility provided within the functional area.
- Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained and all necessary support is provided to ensure efficient operations.
- Contributes to preparation of all standards, policies, and procedures to ensure they are maintained in support of the overall security of the facility.
- Provides analytical support for problems and assists with determining appropriate solutions based on training and past experience.
- Regularly performs more complex and critical independent research and analysis for members of the organization in a wide range of specialties and prepares and presents interpretation of findings and provides relevant conclusions.
- Applies technical knowledge and principles of law enforcement acquired through academic studies and practical experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ten years documented experience as a sworn officer with a municipal or comparable Ohio government law enforcement agency; of which one year or more in a supervisory capacity or specialty role (e.g. SWAT, K-9, FTO, Detective, Evidence Technician etc.) that shows initiative.
- Completion of the (600) hour Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.
- Valid State of Ohio Driver's License upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
- Completion of an advanced leadership training program (i.e., FBI National Academy/ Northwestern University/ Southern Police Institute/ etc.) or recognized in-service training programs in law enforcement management & administration.
The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $95,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational needs.
