GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

Pitzer College is seeking Seasonal Admission Application Readers to review and assess first-year applicants for the class of 2030. Candidates must grasp the principles of a liberal arts education and Pitzer’s core values to identify students who align with and would benefit from our educational approach. The role requires the skill to analyze academic transcripts, recommendation letters, personal statements, and other application materials to provide informed admission recommendations. Application reading training, conducted virtually, equips readers to work remotely, with each reader handling a minimum of 150-200 files per evaluation season. Though this is a remote role, readers must reside in the United States.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Thoroughly read, evaluate, and recommend admission decisions on highly competitive applications.
  • Meet all internal deadlines by maintaining a regular reading schedule.
  • Actively practice awareness of personal biases when evaluating student applications, keeping Pitzer’s institutional priorities, goals, and core values in mind.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality with student information.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Must be conscientious, proactive, self-motivated, and a positive team member.
  • Attention to detail, especially as it pertains to the holistic review of application materials.
  • Understanding of a liberal arts education.

  • Natural aptitude for technology and expertise with MS Office, including expert level use of Excel.
  • Ability to problem-solve and use analytical skills to develop and implement creative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative to work proactively, meet deadlines, organize and prioritize multiple projects, think strategically, and work with numbers and data.
  • Exhibit personal integrity and ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sound professional judgment.

Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in College Admission, College Counseling, or college admission application reading is preferred. Compensation will be adjusted for previous Pitzer College admission application readers. Must not be currently employed in another college’s admission office during the duration of your work with Pitzer College.

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Time Type: Part-time, up to 15 hours per week

Work Hours: This is a temporary, part-time position working up to 15 hours per week from December 1st, 2025 up to March 6th 2026. These hours may vary due to needs of the College or department. The college has a Winter Break from December 22nd, 2025 - January 2, 2026, and you will not be reading during this period.

Work Model: Remote

  • Must have access to reliable and secure computer and internet connection.
  • Must have access to a dedicated and suitable workstation at remote location, including desk or table and supporting, upright chair. Must ensure workstation is safe and free from hazards.

Compensation: Starting Pay Rate $22.00-23.00 per hour

Physical Requirements: This is generally a sedentary position.

  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and operate a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be able to read application materials on a computer screen.  

Employment Requirements

Employment is also contingent upon new employees providing documents verifying U.S. citizenship or, for aliens, documents verifying legal permission to work in the United States. For positions requiring the use of a college-owned vehicle, employment is contingent upon a driving record acceptable to the colleges’ automobile liability insurance. Final candidates in all staff positions will be required to undergo a background investigation; in addition some positions may require a physical lift test and pulmonary function test.
