What you will do
Johnson Controls is seeking a Scrum Master within our Intrusion Detection Security Product engineering and product development team. In this role, you will coach, facilitate, coordinate the integrity of one or more Scrum teams and the Scrum process itself. As a key member of a team of Scrum Masters, you will work within an evolving multi-disciplinary Agile framework to deliver integrated intrusion related projects. You will be given the opportunity to nurture and develop high performance Scrum teams and deliver customer value.
This role is based in Concord, ON, and we prefer candidates to be local, or commuting distance to the facility. For the right candidate, this can be a remote opportunity!
How you will do it
Guide and coach one or more Scrum teams and the organization to follow Agile/Scrum practices.
Guide and coach teams to become self-organized, collaborative, transparent and accountable.
Facilitate the Scrum process, including facilitating all Scrum ceremonies and enforcing timeboxes. Use appropriate tools to ensure ceremonies are efficient, engaging and productive.
Using tactful diplomacy and creativity, remove impediments impacting the Scrum team.
Shield the team from outside interference and distractions.
Ensure Scrum artifacts are visible and transparent.
Enable delivery of Scrum benefits while working within the organization’s evolving culture.
Develop, organize and execute training programs for Agile techniques (including Scrum and Kanban).
Enhance Scrum benefits through integration of related agile development practices, including ruthless automated test, CI/CD, TDD and others.
Ensure team deliverables comply with applicable quality standards, best practices and processes.
Effectively employ tools (physical and/or virtual boards, collaboration and productivity software, etc.) to maximize team effectiveness. Monitor team activity, performance and progress towards sprint goals.
Collaborate with peer Scrum Masters and stakeholders to define metrics to measure team quality, productivity and health.
Build a safe and trusting team environment where conflicts can be addressed without fear of blame or retribution. Resolve team conflicts and coach positive team behaviours.
Promote continuous improvement of related Engineering practices.
Participate in Scrum Master Guilds – supporting other Scrum Masters and extending the collective knowledge base.
Participate in project planning, status, and milestone review events.
Participate in Agile scaling initiatives.
Be responsible for closely supporting the Product Owner on Agile/Scrum practices.
What we look for
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business.
3+ years of experience in a complex technical product development environment using Agile methodologies.
Prior experience with the end-to-end product development lifecycle.
Preferred
Experienced in a Scrum Master role for at least two years for a software development team diligently applying Scrum principles and practices. Strong technical leadership for a product development team may be acceptable alternative.
Good skills and knowledge of facilitation, continuous improvement, empowerment, transparency, conflict resolution and servant leadership.
Formal training in the areas of Scrum/Agile, Scrum Master, and Product Owner.
Knowledge of Agile approaches – Kanban, Scrum, XP, etc.
Knowledge and experience with Agile techniques – automated testing, user stories, Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD), pairing, Agile games, etc.
Knowledge of Lean and Kaizen methodologies
Proficiency in coaching and negotiation skills (tactics, techniques, strategies)
Experience working in a global team environment and communicating effectively across multiple cultures
Experience interfacing with cross-functional teams including marketing, manufacturing, training, publications, and deployment.
High level understanding of software architecture and systems modeling.
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
Familiarity with MSOffice
