The Opportunity

The departments of BioMolecular Research and Structural Biology, within the Protein Sciences Organization at Genentech are looking for a versatile, dynamic, and independent individual to contribute towards medium to large scale mammalian recombinant protein expression. In this collaborative role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with other scientists and group leaders within and outside our department, driving projects autonomously to fulfill both straightforward and challenging protein production needs.


Job Responsibilities

  • Design and execute cell culture strategies to efficiently express both routine and complex recombinant protein targets

  • Carry out several aspects of mammalian cell culture including routine cell propagation, transfection, culture harvest at the 0.5 - 20L scale. 

  • Routinely evaluate, optimize, and implement new expression protocols and technologies to improve titer, yield, and quality. Proactively troubleshoot cell culture and expression challenges.

  • Interact with informatics systems, document experimental procedures and data, and share results with team members

Who You Are

  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in the Biological Sciences should have at least 3-4 years of scientific experience and applicants with a Master’s degree in the Biological Sciences should have at least 1 - 3 years of relevant experience 

  • Working expertise of mammalian cell culture (HEK293, CHO and others) for protein production at multiple-liter scale

  • Practical experience in carrying out troubleshooting and optimizing protein expression

  • Strong desire to learn new techniques, advance technologies related to protein production and interest in implementing new expression systems.

  • Familiarity with protein analytical methods including SDS-PAGE, Western-blot analysis, flow cytometry, and endotoxin assays etc.

  • Excellent organizational skills as well as the ability to multi-task and take responsibility

Preferred

  • Experience in stable cell line generation and BacMam is a plus

  • Familiarity with protein purification and ultrafiltration would be highly desirable

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $83,800 to $155,600.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
