School Nurse - Contract

The International Mission Board, a nonprofit religious organization in Richmond, VA, is in search of a School Nurse (part-time) to work at the Rockville, VA location!             

Schedule: 20 hours per week, 1 year contract

Rate: competitive rate of pay
Location: International Learning Center

The School Nurse supports the health and wellness of students and staff by providing professional medical care, health education, and advocacy. This role includes assessing student health needs, administering medications, managing chronic conditions, and ensuring compliance with public health regulations. The nurse works closely with students, parents, staff, and local health authorities to foster a safe and healthy school environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid and emergency care.
  • Manage and administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans for students with special health needs.
  • Monitor communicable diseases and report cases as required by local and state health authorities.
  • Perform health screenings such as vision and hearing as needed.
  • Maintain accurate health records, including immunization documentation and health screenings. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Educate students, staff, and families about health and wellness topics (e.g. hygiene, nutrition, mental health, overseas living).
  • Serve as health liaison between the school, families, healthcare providers, and public health agencies.
  • Promote a healthy school environment, including supporting wellness policies and managing environmental health concerns.
  • Participate in school safety planning and respond to health-related emergencies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in nursing, required
  • RN licensure, required
  • At least 2 years of Nursing experience
  • Preferred experience with one of the following areas- critical care, pediatrics, school nursing.
  • Must understand and solve complex medical situations involving children’s immunization records.
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Proficiency with medical documentation and administrative procedures.
