The Floor Manager – Bags leads the daily operations of the sample room with a focus on bag production. This role ensures efficient workflow, high-quality output, and team development, while interpreting and executing policies that directly impact work activities. The Floor Manager sets performance expectations, manages operational plans, and collaborates across functions to support product development and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage routine operational plans for sample room activities, ensuring alignment with seasonal calendars and business objectives.
Monitor and manage sample room budget, labor utilization, and resource allocation to meet monthly performance targets.
Interpret and execute policies and procedures that directly affect sample room operations, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
Partner with U.S.-based Design and Development teams to transform 2D line art into fully sewn prototypes that reflect design intent.
Ensure prototypes are production-ready and support seamless handoff to Tier 1 suppliers, leveraging knowledge of manufacturing processes.
Provide accurate cost estimates for prototype builds, factoring in materials, labor, and production complexity.
Provide direct supervision to skilled and support staff, including subordinate supervisors, in accordance with established policies and management guidance.
Set clear performance expectations and lead the team to meet quality, efficiency, and delivery goals.
Mentor and train sample room staff, fostering skill development and professional growth.
Organize and distribute tasks to maximize team productivity and quality.
Track and report team performance metrics including quality pass rates, efficiency, and labor utilization.
Lead daily inspections of work to ensure quality standards are met.
Implement best practices to improve workflow, eliminate waste, and enhance sample room operations.
Maintain accurate inventory of samples, materials, and tools.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, Textiles, Industrial Design, or related field strongly preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in sample room or production floor management, ideally in bag manufacturing.
At least 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the ability to adapt style and influence across teams.
Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
Manual dexterity for sewing and handling materials.
Occasional lifting of materials up to 50 lbs (team lift required).
Comfortable working in environments with dust, noise, and bright lighting.
