Purpose and Scope: The Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) Director is responsible for the SOCS Quality Management System (QMS) that includes the oversight of Quality, Safety, and Environmental programs and associated regulatory compliance, the Continuous Improvement (CI) Program. Develops accident prevention policies and programs, as well as training and implementation of those programs. Manages post-accident investigations in accordance with regulatory agencies. Monitor and track contract deliverables and deductions schedules. The S&MA Director is a strong proactive communicator influencing open communications to across SOCS and the Spaceport for Mission Success.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities:
Manages and ensures appropriate training and certifications for a diverse, skilled S&MA team
Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
Supports financial objectives analyzing requirements, processes and regulatory compliance
Performs informal and formal process audits to ensure best practices are in place for current environment. Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures
Manages the personnel training schedule in accordance OJT and NASA Standards
Manages the Techdoc system maintaining policies, procedures and checklists teaming with department POCs
Establishes informal network with Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories.
Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods.
Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Researches safety regulations and informs senior management of changes. Implements actions to maintain compliance.
Ensures all injuries and incidents are reported and managed according to Amentum and Government requirements
Manages injury review process to determine and correct root cause. Performs job hazard analyses, system auditing and ergonomic task analysis to ensure safe working conditions.
Manages special safety assignments and projects to ensure adherence to safety regulations and to determine needs for updating safety codes. Makes and implements safety policies and procedures as appropriate.
Formulates, implements and maintains policies, programs and techniques necessary to achieve company goals and regulatory requirements including record retention.
Develops approach and expectations for the CI Manager to promote Lean Six Sigma and other methodologies through training, and mentoring to become Green Belt Certified across the contract to lead process improvement projects.
Develop a culture of operation excellence and process improvement within the environment; obtain Program Manager and key personnel buy in.

Required Education/Certifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Quality, Environmental Technology, Business, or Management related field.
15+ years field safety experience with 5 years in S&MA management; Experience leading personnel in conducting work safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations and in managing safety, quality, industrial hygiene, health physics, and environmental compliance
Must have thorough knowledge of AS9110, ISO 9001 and the OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).
Experience working with current federal, state and company safety regulations and policies.
Preferred Education/Certifications/Experience:
Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
Four years or more of Six Sigma Black Belt experience preferred.
Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) strongly desired.
Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) strongly desired.
Certified Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) desired.
Required Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to exercise sound judgement and reason.
Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast data-driven decisions.
Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing and standard Microsoft Office software to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
Ability to read and understand schematics & blueprints.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Must possess general knowledge of office routines to include scheduling, general office administration, and a working knowledge of standard computer software.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Other Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position
Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 50 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided. Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.
