What’s the role
The Road Transport Lead is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant coordination of all road transport activities across Shell Trinidad’s operations. This includes both light vehicle (cars, pickups, vans) and heavy vehicle (trucks, trailers, tankers, cranes, abnormal loads) movements. The role provides subject matter expertise in road transport and integrates logistics coordination across the wider supply chain, ensuring that Shell’s HSSE standards, journey management requirements, and cost optimization goals are consistently achieved.
What you’ll be doing
HSSE:
Ensure adherence to Shell’s HSSE standards, Land Transport Manual, and national traffic regulations.
Lead journey risk assessments and approve journey management plans for both light and heavy vehicle operations.
Monitor driver performance and enforce standards through training, audits, and ride-along.
Oversee vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, and compliance certifications.
Contract Management:
Manage day to day operations of ground transport of personnel including demand and service execution.
Execute roles and responsibilities of Contract Holder i.e.
Directly responsible Road Transport contracts for personnel transport for Shell Trinidad and Tobago
Manages and provide assurance on site-level performance measurement for each contract including KPIs, business controls etc.
Develops and executes contract compliance schedules and monitoring including HSE, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Sustainable Development (e.g. local content) CP standards including performance measurement, contract financial planning, and the organization of tactical and operations-level performance reviews.
Field Operations and Logistics Coordination:
Oversee scheduling and dispatch of light and heavy vehicles to meet daily operational, project, and emergency needs.
Manage specialized heavy-haul operations including hazardous material transport and oversized cargo.
Optimize fleet allocation and routing to improve efficiency, utilization, and cost effectiveness.
Coordinate with marine, aviation, warehouse, and freight forwarding teams for seamless multimodal logistics.
Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Ensure digital tools are used to monitor fleet movements and driver behaviour.
Track KPIs such as on-time movements, utilization, incident frequency, emissions, and cost efficiency.
Develop and implement initiatives to improve safety performance, fuel efficiency, and sustainability.
Contribute subject matter expertise to Shell’s regional and global road transport networks.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
Act as Shell’s subject matter expert (SME) for road transport across light and heavy vehicles.
Provide guidance and technical advice to internal customers on transport solutions and risks.
Support organizational change initiatives, including localization of contractors and fleet modernization.
Lead incident investigations and provide coaching to drivers, contractors, and logistics staff.
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Trinidad & Tobago on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
5+ years’ experience in road transport, logistics, or supply chain management.
Experience in managing transportation fleets – specifically in coordination and assurance of road transport. Experience in enforcing technical road transport requirements would be beneficial
Strong collaboration skills
A resilient individual with the determination and passion for ensuring delivery of high-quality services.
Business acumen to understand the economics of a solution or service, including cost drivers and the trade-offs associated with quality, schedule and costs.
Ability to manage conflicting requests, insights and opinions and comfortable working with, and leading through uncertainty and complexity.
Strong safety leadership and can demonstrate a track record of Goal Zero.
Able to model the right HSSE behaviours and drive a generative HSSE culture.
Experience in managing large contracts will be beneficial
