The Cleveland Clinic's Endoscopy Department at Avon Hospital provides comprehensive care for digestive system disorders using advanced endoscopic techniques. They offer a range of procedures, including colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, and bariatric endoscopy, with a focus on minimally invasive options and patient comfort. The department is staffed by highly trained specialists and utilizes the latest technology to ensure high-quality diagnosis and treatment. As an RN on our team, you will provide care for patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. You will perform scrub and circulating functions, prepare the OR, surgical instruments and equipment for surgery and assist the operating physician with surgical tasks.
This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working day/evening/night/weekend shifts varying between 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Deliver professional nursing care in an operative setting to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies.
Performing circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patients’ conditions and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.
Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure and patient positioning.
Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.
Start IV lines for sedation/anesthesia.
Verify NPO (nothing by mouth) status and allergies.
Prepare and check endoscopic equipment (scopes, monitors, suction, biopsy forceps)
Operate endoscopic equipment and adjust settings as needed.
Troubleshoot technical issues with scopes or monitors.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within six months of hire
One year of recent related clinical experience for internal applicants
Two years of recent related clinical experience for external applicants
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > 75 pounds periodically.
