Job Description

Principal duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:

  • Key Job Functions
    • Perform all restaurant side work as designated by the supervisor.
    • Efficiently and properly perform all service standards.
    • Attend to all needs of the guests during meal periods, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
    • Report to Supervisor any need for housekeeping and/or repairs of any equipment or restaurant.
    • Must be familiar with and adhere to all liquor liability laws.
    • Must attend all designated pre-meal meetings.
    • Responsible for setting up restaurant and other work areas.
    • Adhere to predefined drink service guidelines and responsible for beverage familiarization. Including regular and specialty cocktails, beer and wine selections.
    • Perform any other duties assigned by management.
    • Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
    • Maintain an awareness of liquor costs and minimize waste, which may raise them.
    • Must be familiar with all policies related to liquor liability laws.
    • Ability to open and close the restaurant shift assigned.
    • Must serve all guests in consistent manner, using Sonesta Service Standards.
    • Must be able to bus tables and tray settings and re-set as needed.
    • Must be able to use Micros to open and close checks.
    • Must know the menu and be able to describe the items to guests.
    • Must be able to communicate and maintain a positive relationship with culinary and stewarding staff.
    • Maintain an awareness of all functions, events and meetings taking place at any given time.
    • Control heavy volume at the restaurant.
    • Greeting guests. Anticipate guest’s needs to create an amazing experience.
    • Ability to use or learn to use coffee maker/urn, microwave, beverage machines, bus trays, dishware, silverware, glassware, queen-mary cart, telephone, pen/pencil.
    • Will work in the interior of the hotel, restaurant, lounge and kitchen area with exposure to extreme temperatures.
    • Will have exposure to potentially hazardous cleaning chemicals.
    • Must have complete knowledge of service time, menu, and specials.
    • Responsible for each check.
    • Responsible for pick-up tables and trays in guest rooms, hallways, elevator ladings, etc.
    • Responsible for set-up, delivery and presentation of all amenities.
    • Attend all designated staff meetings and training sessions.
    • Perform all IRD side work as designated by the supervisor.
    • Efficiently and properly perform all service standards.

  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. The employee is expected to work in other areas of the hotel when needed to assist operations to perform job duties not necessarily contained in this job description.

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.

  • Track record of delivering exceptional guest or client experience.
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time for training and safety purposes, and when interacting with guests and associates.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to handle cash, vouchers, coupons, and credit cards as needed.
  • Maintain clean surroundings
  • Follows Sonesta’s grooming standards.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Pushing supply carts.
  • Carrying trays.
