Position Information
The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks.
Responsibilities:
Perform or assist in the supervision of the harvest, transport, storage, conditioning and distribution of foundation seed, which requires operating a vehicle to perform duties.
Travel as required, even though it may not be at convenient times, which requires operating a vehicle to perform duties.
Assist in the evaluation of production fields and rogue or supervise roguing for genetic and quality contaminants necessary to meet the quality standards set by TDA.
Assist in estimating needs, procurement and maintenance of the kind and quantity of stocks and materials needed (seed, bags, tags, chemicals, supplies, etc.) necessary for various operations.
Perform or supervise the repair, maintenance or modification of all machinery and equipment used in the daily operation of TFSS.
Maintain records such as vehicle mileage reports, seed inventory, vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair logs, etc.
Assist in training employees in all aspects of seed production and conditioning, including the operation, maintenance, modification, repair and safety of equipment and materials.
Perform other job related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience.
Familiarity with field and/or greenhouse equipment.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Valid Texas Driver's License
Certified Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain a Certified Pesticide Applicator License after employment.
Must be able to perform field, greenhouse and nursery work with plants.
Ability to work well with others and follow verbal instructions.

Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications. This is an hourly paid position.
