Research Laboratory Technician I
Maternal Child Adolescent Virology Research Laboratory at USC Pediatrics is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician I. Working directly under the supervision of the Associate Professor of Research Pediatrics, the Research Laboratory Technician I works closely with the Research Laboratory Technician Ill, Supervisor, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
The successful candidate will be motivated, pro-active, resourceful, and detail-oriented. The position requires excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to be adaptable. Candidates should have experience working in a BSL2 laboratory.
Essential job duties include, but are not limited to:
• Preparing experimental materials using laboratory protocols and safety guidelines
Handling and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
Setting up and operating standard and complex laboratory equipment
Maintaining accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
Performing experimental analysis and interpretations
Stocking and maintaining laboratory supplies, including monitoring inventory levels and orders
Maintaining laboratory environment in orderly and operable conditions
Performing laboratory procedures using proper blood borne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Safety office, the laboratory director, and laboratory supervisor
Maintaining biorepository to include: electronic system, alarm system, liquid nitrogen tanks, and ultra-low freezers
Participating in rotating call to cover maternal deliveries, clinical study participation, and emergency biorepository maintenance approximately 50% of after-hours including weekends and holidays
Follows established USC and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan
Required Qualifications:
High school Laboratory experience
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
Practices a high level of integrity and honesty
A cooperative and team-oriented attitude
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. degree
Specialized technical training in laboratory skills
This position is fully on-site and employee must report to work at the USC Health Science Campus, 1333 San Pablo St, BMT B12, Los Angeles, CA 90033 when scheduled. Work hours and on-site days may be subject to change depending on business needs. Weekly schedule is 37.5 hours. Employee will participate in on-call schedule to cover maternal deliveries, clinical study participation, and biorepository maintenance approximately 50% of after-hours, including weekends and University holidays.
The hourly rate range for this position is $21.61 - $24.14 - $27.76.
