Key skills and experience

  • Extensive experience in software/technology roles (e.g. senior engineer, architect, technical lead, or manager).

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; postgraduate qualifications an advantage.

  • Broad knowledge of software design, development, and delivery (e.g. architecture, cloud, distributed systems, APIs, data platforms, digital technologies).

  • Proven leadership and consulting skills, including managing projects/teams and engaging senior stakeholders through structured technical interviews.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to convert complex technical concepts into clear documentation and presentations.

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret legislation and apply it to real-world technical projects.

  • Experience managing multiple projects, delegating effectively, and overseeing budgets and timelines.

  • Experience mentoring and developing colleagues and fostering high performance.

  • Commercial awareness and interest in business development; experience with R&D tax credits/innovation incentives is beneficial but not essential.

Success in the Role: Performance Outcomes in your first 6-12 months

  • Manage a portfolio of software and technology clients and lead technical assessments for R&D tax credit and innovation incentive claims.

  • Conduct structured interviews with senior client stakeholders to identify qualifying R&D and articulate technological advances.

  • Prepare and review robust, compliant technical reports in collaboration with tax, costing, and finance teams.

  • Lead and develop a team of technology consultants through coaching and on-the-job training.

  • Support business development through proposals, pitches, client workshops, and innovation funding reviews.

  • Stay current on emerging technologies and trends and apply these insights in client work and thought leadership.

What type of work will I be doing?

  • Client engagement: Lead technical interviews, manage key relationships, and advise on R&D eligibility.

  • Technical analysis & reporting: Assess projects, draft technical narratives, and ensure they align with legislative criteria.

  • Team leadership & development: Coach consultants, manage resources, and promote a collaborative team culture.

  • Business development & market presence: Contribute to proposals, campaigns, and represent Deloitte at industry events.
