Department of Biology (Professor Andrew Gonzalez)
Position Summary:
Organization and facilitation of meetings and workshops
- Plans and coordinates workshops, discussion groups, and working sessions with researchers, professionals, and stakeholders.
 - Facilitates these activities in an engaging way to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
 - Produces minutes and summaries to advance the work.
 
Development and adaptation of scientific methodologies
- Designs, tests, and proposes methodological approaches to collect, analyze, and interpret biodiversity data.
 - Contributes to harmonizing protocols across different teams and disciplines.
 - Ensures scientific rigor and transparency of the methods used.
 
Support to the advisory committee
- Works closely with the advisory committee responsible for guiding and validating methodological choices.
 - Prepares supporting documents for deliberations (analyses, options, recommendations).
 - Ensures the consistent implementation of adopted protocols.
 
Data collection, analysis, and synthesis
- Gathers data from scientific literature, databases, and institutional partners.
 - Conducts comparative and interdisciplinary analyses.
 - Synthesizes results clearly and coherently to support report writing.
 
Scientific writing and knowledge mobilization
- Writes sections of the report on the state of biodiversity and thematic briefs.
 - Adapts content for different audiences (scientists, policymakers, the general public).
 - Contributes to the consistency, quality, and scientific rigor of publications.
 
Support to QCBS
- Develops biodiversity monitoring research projects in collaboration with QCBS members.
 - Fosters and strengthens scientific collaborations, and contributes to meetings, funding applications, the annual report, and media outreach activities of the QCBS.
 
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Strong communication and collaborative skills.
 - Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
 - Strong organizational skills and autonomy.
 - Knowledge of biodiversity conservation and sustainability practices is an asset.
 - Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
 - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and French.
 
Education/Experience:
- Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Biodiversity Management, or a related field (minimum requirement). 
 - Proven experience in facilitating groups, workshops, or communities of practice.
 - Expertise in biodiversity and understanding of conservation and environmental policy issues.
 - Demonstrated ability to develop and apply research methodologies. 
 - Strong skills in analysis, scientific writing, and knowledge translation. 
 
Location:  This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.  The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4".
