An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Structural Biology Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
The Glukhova lab is interested in understanding the structural mechanisms of Wnt signaling, with a particular focus on membrane protein complexes and the application of this knowledge for drug discovery. We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to join our team as a research assistant. The appointee will be responsible for research support, general lab maintenance, and accurately recording and reporting data to the lab manager, lab head or senior postdoctoral fellows.
Key Responsibilities
Provide research assistance to support laboratory projects, which may include molecular biology, protein biochemistry, pharmacology or structural biology techniques
Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including ordering, inventory, equipment maintenance, and compliance with safety requirements
Contribute to fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative research culture
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Previous experience working in a research laboratory environment
Proficiency in routine molecular biology and cloning techniques
Experience with bacterial and mammalian cell culture
Good protein expression, purification and characterisation skills
Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data and protocols are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers
Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with the expression and purification of membrane proteins
Experience with mammalian and/or insect cell culture
Technical skills in cloning and molecular biology techniques
Experience with FACS, generation of stable cell lines
Experience with fluorescence- or luminescence-based pharmacology assays
Some familiarity with structural biology (x-ray crystallography or cryo-EM)
Knowledge of laboratory safety requirements, compliance, and record keeping
Personal Qualities:

Terms of Appointment
This is a full-time position for two years. Salary is RSE Level 5-6 ($82,018 - $102,979), depending on qualifications and experience. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
