Job Overview

The Research Assistant at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology - Georgetown University, conducts advanced research to investigate the role of CD8 T cell immune activation in people with HIV (PWH). This position supports a critical research aim to elucidating immune-mediated vascular pathology and cardiovascular risk in PWH. The role focuses on performing animal experiments of infection, multidimensional flow cytometry, analyzing data, and contributing to publications. Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct laboratory experiments to investigate CD8 T cell immune activation and endothelial dysfunction.

  • Analyze immunological data using flow cytometry and other advanced techniques.

  • Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members on experimental design and data interpretation.

  • Maintain accurate records of experimental protocols and results.

 

Work Interactions

The Research Assistant collaborates closely with the principal investigator in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and an interdisciplinary team of experts in HIV infection. Reporting to the Principal Investigator of the research project, the role supports the laboratory’s efforts to advance scientific discovery in HIV-related cardiovascular complications. The researcher’s work contributes to Georgetown University’s mission of fostering innovative research and training the next generation of scientists by mentoring graduate students and sharing findings that impact global health.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Immunology and HIV infection.

  • Minimum of 1 years of research experience in immunology or animal models of viral infection, including experience gained during doctoral studies.

  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry, T cell cell culture, and molecular biology assays.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with FlowJo.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for scientific publications and presentations.

Preferred

  • Experience with HIV-related research or T cell immunology

  • Familiarity with vascular endothelial cell and T cell biology

  • Prior experience mentoring students or contributing to interdisciplinary research teams

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$20.16 - $31.30

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
