About the Role

The Operating Room RN plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate surgical care. This position requires a strong clinical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

You’ll provide direct patient care using the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—while coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and fellow nursing staff to deliver seamless care throughout the perioperative experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, effective, and compassionate care for surgical patients before, during, and after procedures

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care

  • Maintain sterile technique and enforce infection control standards

  • Collaborate with surgeons and surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

  • Document nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely

  • Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring comfort, dignity, and clear communication throughout the surgical process

  • Participate in ongoing education, training, and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Current RN License or eligibility in the Commonwealth of Virginia (required)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire

  • BSN or MSN preferred

  • Specialty certifications as applicable to area (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) within specified timeframes

  • Previous OR experience preferred, but open to RNs with a passion for surgical care and a commitment to learning
