Job Summary
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer (R&D) with a strong background in distributed systems, systems architecture, and AI/ML to lead innovation in the VCF Operations Core Platform.
In this role, you will be instrumental in infusing intelligence into the VCF management plane—applying AI and ML techniques to enhance system observability, automation, and operational decision-making in private cloud environments. You will also pioneer the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices across the SDLC, helping the team become more productive, data-driven, and future-ready.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role that combines deep engineering expertise with a passion for applied AI, distributed systems, and elegant architecture. You’ll help shape how private cloud infrastructure is managed and evolve how we build the software that powers it.

Responsibilities
• Lead AI/ML-driven innovation within the VCF Operations Core Platform by designing and implementing intelligent components that enhance monitoring, automation, and troubleshooting for private cloud operations.
• Architect and deliver scalable, high-performance distributed systems that integrate AI/ML capabilities with operational robustness and enterprise-grade reliability.
• Collaborate across engineering, product management, and research teams to identify high-impact AI use cases and turn concepts into production-grade solutions.
• Drive the adoption of AI in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including intelligent code assistance, test optimization, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams in applying AI/ML frameworks and architectural best practices within the VCF ecosystem.
• Stay current with emerging AI, ML, and distributed systems technologies, evaluating their applicability to Broadcom’s private cloud management stack.
• Promote a culture of innovation and experimentation—encouraging the use of data-driven methods, automation, and modern engineering practices across the organization.

Qualifications
Required
• Bachelors and 12+ years of related experience; at this level a post-graduate degree is typically expected or Masters degree and 10+ years of related experience or PhD and 7+ years of related experience. Related experience is experience in software development with a strong background in distributed systems, private cloud infrastructure, or large-scale platform engineering.
• Proven experience architecting or implementing AI/ML-powered systems in production environments.
• Strong programming skills in Java, C++ or Phyton, with familiarity in modern AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, data pipelines, and observability systems for distributed environments.
• Experience applying AI to software engineering processes such as automated code generation, test intelligence, or predictive quality metrics.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills with a passion for sharing knowledge.
Preferred
• Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation, Kubernetes, or private cloud management platforms.
• Familiarity with MLOps, model lifecycle management, and deploying AI/ML models in operational systems.
• Contributions to open-source projects or published work in applied AI for infrastructure operations or software engineering.
• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on systems or AI.
