About the Job

In this role, the Radiation Safety Tech, ensures safe storage, usage, and documentation of all radioactive materials used at Loyola Health System. This includes materials used in Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Labs, and SSOM Graduate School research labs. This is a position needed to maintain regulatory compliance.

What you will do

  • Manage radioactive waste program. This involves preparing radioactive waste for transport from clinical and research departments to the radioactive material waste facility for sorting and storage, storing short half-life waste for decay-to-background levels prior to disposal in accordance with IEMA regulatory requirements, preparing long-lived radioactive waste shipments, documenting all throughput and conducting weekly waste building surveys.

  • Ensure safety of patients and staff by preparing patient care rooms for occupancy by radiopharmaceutical therapy patients and deconstructing the rooms after discharge. Maintain regulatory compliance through the performance documentation of radiation surveys of inpatients along with surveys and decontamination of patient rooms after discharge. Additionally, complete radiation surveys of radiopharmaceutical therapy patients treated as out-patients

Here is what you will need

Minimum Required:

  • Associate degree

  • Specific Degree(s): Physics, Health Physics, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Physical Science

  • 1-2 years of experience or

  • New Nuclear Med graduates

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Specific Degree(s): Physics, Health Physics, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Physical Science

Licensure/Certifications

Preferred:

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB) or ARRT (N)

Pay Range: $39.00 - 59.92 USD Hourly

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
