Summary:
VIAVI Solutions is seeking a Quantum Safe Test Engineer to join our global advanced innovation center in Singapore. This role focuses on hands-on laboratory testing, prototype validation, and system integration for quantum-safe communication technologies, including Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), and hybrid secure networking solutions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hands-on testing and lab operations for prototype quantum-safe communication systems.
- Perform functional, performance, and interoperability testing of QKD, PQC, and hybrid secure networking components.
- Operate and maintain optical and electronic lab instruments, such as optical spectrum analyzers and network analyzers.
- Develop and execute automated test scripts (Python, C++, or similar) for system validation and long-term stability testing.
- Set up and configure optical fibers, photonic devices, and secure network links in lab and field trial environments.
- Support integration of cryptographic modules, key management systems (KMS), and network security functions into testbeds.
- Collect and analyze experimental data, identify root causes of issues, and provide detailed test reports and improvement feedback.
- Collaborate with global R&D and engineering teams to refine system design and ensure test coverage for all functional components.
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
Technical Expertise:
- Hands-on experience with optical and electronic laboratory setups, including fiber handling, photonics alignment, and signal measurement.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ for test automation, instrument control, and data analysis.
- Working knowledge of network protocols (Ethernet, IP, TLS, IPsec) and cryptographic concepts (key exchange, encryption).
- Familiarity with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), or quantum optics is highly advantageous.
- Experience with Linux environments, network configuration, and protocol analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) preferred.
- Understanding of ETSI, ITU-T, or NIST quantum-safe standards is a plus.

- Knowledge of hardware–software co-testing, optical calibration, and time synchronization systems.
- Contributions to research projects, standardization activities, or patents related to quantum-safe networking.
