Job Summary

Imerys British Lithium - Par Moor Centre, Cornwall

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum (depending on experience) 

Contract: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday (day shift)

This role is being advertised in anticipation of a potential future vacancy for a Purchasing Manager at our site in Par, Cornwall. We are looking for a Project Purchasing Manager to play a crucial role in the Imerys British Lithium Development Project. This dedicated individual will manage all purchasing activities (both capital and operational expenditures) for the project. Working closely with the Project Director and Stream Leaders, the Project Purchasing Manager will be responsible for the full procurement cycle, including Executing Requests for Quotation (RFQs), Completing commercial bid tabulations, Negotiating and finalising contracts. They will also coordinate with relevant Category Managers for specialised support as needed.

About the company 

Imerys British Lithium (IBL) is developing a world class micaceous lithium resource in Cornwall. We have developed unique, patented technology for the sustainable recovery of battery grade lithium carbonate from micaceous granite, with the goal of building the world’s first integrated lithium mine, beneficiation plant and refinery producing 20,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year (enough to support production in the UK each year of 350,000 electric vehicles) by the end of the decade.  

We operate a state-of-the-art pilot plant, built to develop our unique LiMica-Sep™ and Li-Sep™ technologies. Capabilities at the facility involve a wide range of process technologies, such as mineral beneficiation, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, precipitation, crystallisation, and ion exchange, at both the laboratory and industrial scales.

 

Summary of the role:

  • Strategy & Planning: Implement purchasing plans in collaboration with Project Managers and Stream Leaders, using routines to ensure information circulation and future action anticipation.

  • Sourcing & Tendering: Manage the full supplier sourcing process—including launching tenders, participating in supplier qualification, and using the Sourcing Request tool.

  • Negotiation & Contracts: Negotiate contracts and collaborate with the Legal team on contract preparation and claim management.

  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to Imerys’ purchasing process and rules, monitor and report savings, and provide data for monthly progress reports.

  • Support & Coordination: Coordinate with other purchasing categories, support the P2P process (Procurement to Pay) with Accounting, aid technical teams with claims, and assist in the deployment of Group IT solutions (like IVALUA).

  • Sustainability: Support Imerys' Sustainability program (e.g., Ecovadis and CO2 impact).

Do you have the following attributes?

  • Master in Business School or General Engineer with specialization in purchasing

  • Experience in purchases of industrial equipment, engineering contracts, work contracts, indirect services

  • Experience in procurement and interfaces between procurement and purchasing

  • Experience in contract negotiation (equipment, engineering services)

  • Good communication and able to work with other cultures

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential

  • Ability to challenge the technical teams to get ideas accepted

  • Management of change

  • Ability to bring people together and to be a “facilitator”

  • Ability to work on project mode

  • Very good negotiator, results oriented

  • Curious

  • Autonomous
