Project Controls Cost Analyst

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity as a Project Controls Cost Analyst? In this role, you will provide expertise on tracking, analyzing, forecasting and reporting project costs to ensure alignment with budget and schedule objectives. This role supports project managers and financial teams by providing accurate and timely cost data, variance analysis, and insight to guide informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle in the Midstream business unit which spans over 50,000 assets across >20 facilities in five provinces and two states.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of Project Controls, cost analyst or financial planning in a project based environment
  • AACEI (Assn. for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) Certified Cost Professional or PMIs Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Ability to apply and improve established standards, guidelines, systems, and processes
  • Proficiency with cost control systems and tools (e.g. Excel, Primavera P6, SAP, EcoSys, Oracle, MS Project)
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas businesses, preferably in Refinery, Pipelines or Distribution operations
  • Knowledge of earned value management
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and listening), change management, non-authoritative leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong collaboration skills to work across and within multiple production unit teams
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with high level of accuracy in work
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and complying to PC processes and driving IPA best practices

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, monitor and maintain project cost systems, work breakdown structures and cost coding structures
  • Track and analyze project costs, commitments, expenditures and variances to identify trends and risks
  • Support project budgeting, cashflow forecasting and cost estimating for changes
  • Prepare and distribute cost reports, performance metrics and variance analysis to project stewardship
  • Ensure project costs are aligned to contractual obligations, procurement activities and change management processes
  • Collaborate with scheduling, engineering, procurement and construction teams to maintain cost/schedule integration
  • Provide early warning of potential cost overruns or budget issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Assist in developing project funding requests
  • Participate in project reviews, audits, and closeout processes, ensuring proper documentation and cost reconciliation
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and industry best practices for cost control is being used

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
