The role:

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Senior Project Accountant will be based on-site with DFAT in Canberra and will provide project accounting services with a focus on continuous improvement. You will maintain a Global Best Practice approach in the establishment, Management and delivery of the Finance Team services to the DFAT account, as well as achieve KPI, financial and other targets as established for the DFAT account. Success in the role will be measured by the ability to extract and analyse data into clear and cogent reports, and engage with relevant stakeholders to understand their reporting requirements

JLL is the global property service provider for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The portfolio comprises approximately 1,000 properties (both owned and leased), across 100+ countries and includes Chanceries/Embassies and Residential properties.

Snapshot of the roles:

  • Strategic and key operational responsibilities will include:
  • Provide finance support to the Project Management Branch, including but not limited to:
  • Coordination and preparation of detailed project management cost reporting.
  • Coordination, preparation and monitoring of internal capital project budgets in accordance with Government requirements.
  • Provide financial support for strategic analysis including options analysis and business case preparation.
  • Co-ordination and preparation of funding requests, AP & AR invoices, purchase orders, preparing month end journals and accruals, forecasting, cost allocations and recoveries.
  • Ensure all month end procedures and reporting requirements are adhered to and deadlines met as per the agreed timetables.
  • Provide financial support with procurement documentation for Project consultants, contractors and suppliers including RFT preparation, tender evaluations, finalisation of contracts and financial analysis.
  • Report periodically across the portfolio on agreed Financial KPI’s
  • Support internal, external and DFAT audit requirements
  • Cash flow management.
  • Manage FX requirements.

Ideal Experience:

An Australian Citizen in order to comply with our Client’s requirement to obtain and gain at least a NV1 clearance

  • Bachelor Degree in an Accounting or related discipline.
  • Formal qualifications or significant progress towards completing qualifications related to finance would be highly regarded (CA or CPA).
  • Demonstrated experience in Asset and Construction accounting and government capital expenditure processes.
  • Working knowledge of a property management in some or all of the following areas: leasing, project scoping, valuation, and asset management.
  • Good interpersonal skills to manage diverse range of DFAT representatives and JLL stakeholders.
  • Sound written and oral communication skills, and the capacity to deal with ambiguity & complex problems.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and complex deliverables on a daily basis
  • Able to think strategically, innovatively and solve problems.
  • Very good Excel, analytical and reporting skills (including commentary).
  • An awareness of government funding and procurement protocols including the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, the PGPA Act, the Commonwealth Property Management Framework, and the WH&S Act.
  • A detailed knowledge of SAP accounting packages would be highly regarded.
