As a Perinatal Educator, you will support new parents during the pregnancy and postpartum period. Your education offers an important "first impression" of parenthood for expectant families, helping them prepare for birth and the changes that come afterward. In this position, you will collaborate with fellow caregivers to maintain the most up to date content for classes and support community efforts to promote the health and wellness of women and children.

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Support and teach expectant mothers and their support person, post-delivered parents in the postpartum period and the community in a structured classroom program using an interactive teaching style.  
  • Serve as a resource person to support Cleveland Clinic’s Birthing and Neonatal Services and the community.  
  • Teach class content as developed and approved by the RN Perinatal Educator or Manager. 
  • Utilize current knowledge of maternal/child recommendations and best practices.  
  • Utilize group facilitation skills and creative, interactive methods.  
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to pregnant and parenting mothers, fathers and other family members in a supportive, interactive teaching environment.  
  • Maintain class equipment and handouts.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate’s degree.  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Or the American Red Cross within six months of hire 
  • One year of experience OR certification/demonstrated knowledge in the specialty area of instruction.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPR instructor
  • Experience teaching in a group setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
  • Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
  • Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as appropriate.
